COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The 13th release in our 15 beers series was brewed in 1999. We found a shilling sitting on the counter of our homebrew supply store one day and had no idea how it got there. We joked around that it was a sign to brew a Scottish Ale because the strength of them are based on shillings. We soon came to realize we were meant to brew our version to be "one" more than the traditional 90 shilling

Dark copper pour with a light tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and light smoke. Taste is roasted malt, caramel and a light smoke flavor in the body and in the aftertaste. Nice lacing.

This was a nice amber color with a warming taste. Some oak and caramel with some hops.

Dark, with clear mahogony, very nice, with foamy froth, nice lacing. Sweet carmel, raison, dark cherrie, very slight roast or chocolate, slight mineral, fresh yeast. Some pepper. Taste is much the same, smooth, with sweet maltiness, good balance, dark carmel, semi sweetness.I like how this finishes and balances out.

Pours a deep copper brown color with a very small film head. Nose has a fantastic malt nose with some very light earthy hops highlights. Lots of marris otter malt kick, some light chocolate, light peat but overall a very smooth malty nose. Flavor has some light burnt caramel malt sweetness with a touch of chocolate to sweeten it up. Brew finishes with a slight acidic bite that really accentuates the hefty toasted malt finish. Body is modest with a lot of fine carbonation, making it feel slightly thinner. Overall a really good brew. Tons of rich malty flavor, fitting the style perfectly. Great candidate for a session evening with friends.

On tap. Dark brown body with a small white head. The aroma is spot on for the style. Peated malt with some roast and caramel. Flavor is pretty smooth and finishes nicely. Decent.

Nice and balanced. Just make sure you start with it as the palate is not deep and the flavor does not extend outside of malt.

I liked this quite a bit. Pours much darker than I expected, with a deep brown center with a nice viscosity to boot. Thick on the mouth feel, with lots of texture and boozy, malt latent undertones. Nice one.

Dark dark ale.... thick head. Sweet taste. Ive not had a scottish ale before but based on this im pretty impressed. I expected this to be a little bit nuttier but i was throughly impressed. I would drink this again.
