bottle. fairly average as Imperial Stout’s go - full-bodied with great color and aroma. nice beer DocJitsu (2004) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - MAR 8, 2017
Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. Faint notes of coffee and dark roasted malt on the nose. Thicker mouthfeel with a static electricity burn across the surface of the tongue. Flavors are subdued and resemble the aromas very closely. Some very faint melon rind is noted as well. williamstome (1902) - Somerville, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 19, 2017
Pitch black pour. Spicy aroma, flavor of chocolate and peppers. On tap at sweetwater kitchen. Niko100 (2944) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 19, 2017
Rich dark brown/black color; Medium to heavy creamy body; Aroma of toasted/ashy malt, cocoa/chocolate, & some coffee; Flavor of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, soy, some hops, and coffee; Fairly well balanced; Nothing crazy here - just decent. koleminer20 (3704) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - JAN 19, 2017
12 oz bottle that I now regret opening. The pour is a darker brown/light black with a thicker light tan head that leaves a strong soapy lace behind. The aroma is bitter roasted malt and a hint of chocolate. There isn’t much complexity here and that’s a bummer. The flavor isn’t much different. There is the bitter malt and a hint of chocolate before it just falls out. The malt dominates and finishes with a metallic spit at the end. The mouth feel is watery and painfully light. There is a light carbonation and a lingeringly bitter malt that just drags out. This isn’t good. Sigh.

12oz bottle. No apparent code dating on bottle. Appearance: Typical RIS, jet black, opaque, with a quickly dissipating brown head.
Aroma: Dark chocolate, black cherry, with a touch of light roast and some papery oxidation.
Taste: Rich malt sweetness that comes across as strong dark chocolate. A touch of dark fruit, with only a light roastiness. A slight oxidation is there, with a moderate perceived bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a touch of creaminess, but on the lighter side of the style, and a low carbonation. Alcohol warmth is noticeable, but not sharp.
Finish: Leaves some chocolate and roast on the palate, with a bitterness that seems to strengthen after the swallow.
Overall: Faiely average RIS. Heavier on the dark chocolate and dark fruit character, low on roastiness. Seems to lack some complexity and body of other notable beers within the style. Almost cloyingly sweet and a touch out of balance Lowe1983 (1605) - Dayton, Ohio, USA - JAN 13, 2017
Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, and a hint of alcohol. Thick and chewy with plenty of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Bitter finish with some warming. CAnders (1) - Shorewood, Illinois, USA - JAN 3, 2017 does not count
I love this beer. In a world of high octane hop beers, this beer is a welcoming imperial stout. This beer is not real heavy but taste really good. I could drink this anytime the temp drops below 80 degrees F. nearbeer (5462) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 28, 2016
12 oz.bottle. Nose of dusty oats, dry cocoa, coffee and a bit of caramel. Deep black with a ring and some islands of foam. Flavors of chocolate, lactose, coffee, lightly tart berry, toffee and oats. Occasional notes of soy, licorice and iron. Medium body has a decent balance and medium carbonation that remains mostly smooth. coachd (860) - Missouri, USA - JUL 21, 2016
Weak smell for an imperial stout, but what is there is pleasant. Cocoa, vanilla, lactose sweetness and just a little roast. Dense black color with a sizable tan sticky head. Tastes sweet, then roasty, then bitter with some coffee in the aftertaste. Not bad, just not very well balanced. Average palate, overall a slightly above average IS.
