COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This deep dark delight harkens back to the days when such brews were shipped to the Imperial Court of Russia. With a firm roasty maltiness balanced against a generous helping of hops, Northwind has what it takes to stand up to the worst its namesake can dish out! Enjoy it by a roaring fire. Formerly called Iditarod Imperial Stout.

Bottle. Looks typical for the style, decent head retention. Nose is roast, cocoa, slight smoke. Mouth is a bit watery for the style, medium bitterness with not nearly enough lot of the necessary balancing sweetness. Tastes exactly like it smells. Another average beer from an average brewery.

Sampled at the 2015 Joplin Pints ’n Paws Mac-Fest beerfest. Chocolatey up front; unfortunately then becomes very syrupy in finish and mouthfeel. Heavy and unbalanced. Bad aftertaste. Don’t care for impies like this; like boozy pancake syrup with some chocolate. Awkward and not very pleasant.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2017 Very nice imperial stout. Jet black. Lots of coffee and chocolate. Some syrupy, thick finish. I didn’t really notice it at first, but it has a strang almost smoky lingering finish.

maekchu (3953) - Hirakata, JAPAN - MAY 6, 2015
Bottle. Thanks to Justin. Nose of coffee, chocolate, and strangely, caramel corn. Thin medium-dark brown color. Mild chocolate, thin dark roast malt, and some lactic notes. Medium body. Nice, moderate flavors, and a bit light for an imperial stout.

BuckeyeBoy (7979) - Boise, Idaho, USA - MAY 6, 2015
12oz bottle picked up in Ohio. Pours out dark brown almost black topped with a tan head. Nose is chocolate coffee roast malts and some ashtray. Taste is more of the roast malts chocolate coffee and some sweetness on the end.

KyotoLefty (10376) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAY 5, 2015
Bottle. Nose of cocoa, milk, wood, brown sugar, some coffee, minerals, and something like caramel corn. Sweet flavor, cola, minerals, chocolate, cream soda. Decent.

Bif (2262) - St. Charles, Missouri, USA - MAY 5, 2015
Bottle. Pours a deep brown color with a nice tan head and good lacing. Aroma of malt, chocolate, dark fruit with a trace of citrus. Taste of roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate and bit of vanilla. Mild bitterness and a dry finish. Full body, thick and creamy. Nice balance with no real hint of the 9.1% ABV. Enjoyable beer to relax with.

TXBadger (2811) - Dallas, Texas, USA - APR 16, 2015
Pours a dark brown almost black like oil with similar viscosity and khaki colored head. Roasted malt, chocolate, and vanilla on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a bit of sweetness and roasted character.

EtTuCthulhu (1391) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - APR 10, 2015
The beer pours an opaque black color with a medium light brown head. The aroma blends roasted malts, milk chocolate, booze and vanilla, and the taste is mildly sweet, mildly boozy, slightly umami, and a touch bitter with a boozy aftertaste reminiscent of light roastiness. The palate fuses an oily texture, medium body, and a soft carbonation with a bite.

nick76 (4399) - Tampa, Florida, USA - MAR 25, 2015
The aroma is semi-sweet with chocolate, coffee, and burnt malt. The appearance is dark brow with a tan head. The taste is like the aroma with a bitter finish. The palate is smooth. Overall a good beer but nothing outstanding or memorable here.
