12 oz pour from refrigerated bottle into flaired-rim pint. Orange, clear, very light head that dissipated quickly. Light malty nose. Medium body, a little thick and sticky on the tounge. Crisp finish. Taste is malty biscuit with a hint of resiny/herby hops. Nothing too remarkable, but a good table beer for dinner. I had this at the brewpub as a sample after the tour...I do not like the regular domaine the dupage, adding a little oak to it, not sure what this was supposed to do. This oak version basically tastes the same as the original, which is just really weird with a little more oak so maybe its a little better as you taste oak. Draught, 5.9%. Mild fruity aroma. Cloudy amber colour. Small tan head. The flavour is quite vinous, malty. Tastes a bit oxidised, but it suits this beer well. Found on tap at Oasis Micro-Pub in Rockford, IL. Arrived to the table a clean copper color with a smaller off-white head. Aroma has a sweet, slightly funky nose with a mild amount of woodiness and a slight bready finish. Flavor starts off with a pretty strong apple and grape fruitiness, mild bready caramel malt middle, slight funk with a mild oak ending. Texture was slick, low carbonation and modest/heavy feeling body. Overall just an okay version of the Domaine DuPage. The beer didn’t have a strong character from the wood and the amount that was there didn’t really add a dimension to the beer to make it a sought after brew. Draft. Poured a clear copper color with a dense off white head. Lots of diacetyl in the nose. Buttery caramel and graham cracker crust. Medium bodied and sweet with carbonation on the low end of the spectrum. Caramel and vanilla dominated the flavor with hints of oak and bacon. Yes, bacon. sample at fall 2009 tasting at brasserie jo. jim ebel told me he had to go to hopleaf for a growler fill as he no longer even had any of his own! huge and expected wood in initial flavor leads to warm roast notes. biscuit like malt in the base beer has morphed into nearly chocolately notes but still not boozy as wood aged beers often are. very soft palate and big woody nose with a hit of booze. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 27, 2009
Tap at south loop binny’s... Pours a hazy and mostly opaque copper brown with an thin soapy off-white head... Aroma of light pear and a glimpse of woodiness...Flavors of earthy, lightly sweet caramel malt with a touch of underlying pear and fruit. Earthy lingering dryness in the finish....
