Poured into a snifter.
3.25 A: Black color. About one finger of fizzy brown head that falls quickly and leaves no lacing.
3.5 S: Bold aroma, yet very clean. Moderate roastiness, just enough caramel and neutral malt sweetness to balance. Cocoa with some depth. Mild peppery spiciness to add a little bit more.
4.0 T: The taste takes the nose and amplifies the intensity. Clean caramel and neutral malt sweetness. Moderate roast, chocolate, cocoa powder, and just enough heat from the peppers to make you know they are there. Not a lot of complexity or depth, but what is there flows really nicely together.
3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation with a nice creaminess. Super smooth.
3.75 D: Very drinkable with a great flavor blend. Pick this up. MrChopin (4305) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 10, 2014

jet black, puffy cream head drops to a ring, spotty cap. Heavy green pepper nose, ashy contrast with cocoa and not melding well. Flavor cleans more easily, creamier with nice chocolate up front, light ash, pepper and roast late, light cardboard end. Very biting beer, more pleasant in flavor but very aggressive spicing.
22oz bottle pours a murky black with some creamy, off white head. Nose has a lot of chili pepper, earthy, sweet, hints of lurking heat, raisin, mild malt. Flavor has more molasses and thus balance, black pepper, malt, raisin, some licorice. Full bodied, peppery finish. solidfunk (9795) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - DEC 6, 2014

really easy to drink specialty brew. sweet and easy to drink. had a draft pour at bad apple. pours brown in color with a tan head. bitter finish tmoreau (4816) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - APR 12, 2014
Shared, cellared bomber, poured to flight samplers showing a black/brown hue, with a light layer of tan froth that reduced quickly to a ring & film, and left some streaks & spots of lacing. The nose was roasted, with baker’s chocolate, a touch of sweetness, and dusty pepper hints. Moderately bitter and medium+ bodied, the taste continued the aroma notes with mellow pepper, a touch of oily texture, and pleasant dryness to the finish. Most likely lost some of it’s original brightness & potency, but otherwise, remained quite tasty. jmohno (1681) - Iowa, USA - APR 5, 2014
Black opaque, some tan head, some spotty lace.Vegetably pepper spice aroma with cocoa. Same in taste but with more cocoa, strong vegetably pepper taste, with cocoa and smooth light roast notes. Fairly sweet and chewy. Little bit of heat to balance the sweet but a bit on the sweet side. Not a bad thing, gives a rich taste to it. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - JAN 30, 2014
