Buddy, pal, mate, brother (or sister) from another mother, compadre . . . sidekick. All of these are ways to describe someone or something that is always at your side. Sidekick extra pale ale is one of those things. This golden colored ale is loaded with juicy citrus and passion fruit hop aroma yet balanced with malt and hop character. A true companion.

Pours a clear and carbonated yellowish golden with a thin white head. Aroma is heavy in citrus with a malt balance. It includes grapefruit, melon, mango, and pineapple. There is a strong amount of caramel malt that is easily noticeable. The taste is dominant in the citrus areas. Grapefruit and pineapple dominate. I find some lemon as well. The malty impressions take a backseat in the flavor department, but that is alright. More on the dry side. Strong grapefruit aftertaste lasts awhile. Medium bodied, thin in texture, with a lively amount of carbonation. This is very refreshing and easy to drink. I’m quite impressed with this one. This will be perfect for warm weather or a summer afternoon. I could drink this all day.

Draft - pour gold with white head - nose and taste of citrus, tropical fruit, caramel malt - medium body

On tap at Two Brothers, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out earthy, spicy hops and some subdued tropical fruitiness. Flavour is herbal in the hop department, with biscuity malt to back. Not a fan of the hop character here, as it’s rather herbal and somewhat vegetal. Meh.

16oz can. Clear lemon yellow body with medium off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, lemon, hay, some straw. Taste is medium sweet, straw, lemon, some grapefruit. Light-medium body, some resin, light acidity.

On tap in STL during a family visit. Pours a clear pale yellow but has no head. Moderate citrus hops with cracker malt backing.

Thin spongy head, lots of carbonation on the glass, beautiful rich golden color. Subtle what and tropical aroma. Dry, slightly bitter taste, thin body, finish is short and flavor drops off quickly. Very drinkable and probably a good choice if you like your beers on the lighter side.

On tap. Hazy blonde. Apricot, grass and hay aromas, apple fruitiness. Light mouthfeel. Fresh and easy drinking.

I can smell the passion fruit in the aroma along with mango, starfruit, sweet malt and only the slightest amount of hops. Very pleasant. Appearance is very pale, a light yellowish color, completely translucent with a cream colored head. Tastes bitter yet light with a strange banana like aftertaste. Refreshing but the taste is a little bit off. Light and watery palate with not enough carbonation to balance it out. Two Brothers is a brewery that I am trying more of, but this one was a miss for me.

Gusher! what a mess. So, I’m left with about half a can to rate. It’s ok, pretty run of the mill. Not bad, just not distinctive.

Draft at Kasey’s Tavern in Chicago. Standard issue, well made APA. Light floral and citrus hoppy notes. Lightly dry finish. Crush able for the long haul.

Very drinkable pale ale. Light and refreshing. Can't go wrong with most two brothers ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
