Pours clear amber with some red to it. 1-finger off-white head. Typical aroma of pumpkin spice, with notes of vanilla and wood added. Medium body with a touch of oil to it. Lightly astringent finish. 355ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, copper-ish, dark amber colour with average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Spicy pumpkin aroma, lots of clove, a touch of ginger, orange juice and cola. Taste is moderately sweet, has notes of pumpkin and clove, ginger, a mixture of orange juice and cola reminds of ’Spezi’ or ’Mezzo Mix’; a cautious touch of rum is present as well; lively and refreshing, likewise smooth and muted carbonation. hopbag (159) - - JAN 9, 2017
Quite drinkable for a pumpkin ale. Sort of an American strong ale with some spice and pumpkin notes. The barrel aging is subtle and helpful. Nice to have a pumpkin beer that’s not extreme.

12 ounce bottle from Our Daily Bread in Chatham, NY, consumed a little below cellar temp from a pint measuring glass. Yup it’s exactly 12 ounces...anyway, it’s a murky deep chestnut-brown, with a small-to-moderate diminishing head that leaves a tiny ring eventually, little to no lace...typical pumpkin spice aroma - ginger, clove, allspice, etc, and yep, the rum barrel is evident and does add something else, a raisiny and lightly alcoholic note that makes for at least a slightly different profile than the typical pumpkin stuff; could be a bit stronger and more expressive though...on the tongue alas it’s a muddle, an unfortunate prominent soapy note mixing with a morass of weird tartness, sourdough yeastiness, alcohol, brown sugar...it really doesn’t work at all though I will admit it’s kind of interesting, can’t say I’ve ever tasted anything quite like it...a bit watery, sour at the finish, carbonation feels forced and a bit like 7Up. Crisp amber and copper coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of light squash, spices, grain and a bit of caramelised sugars. Medium-bodied; Strong rich squash flavours that show some light spicey flavours, a touch of grain and a little yeast flavours - but no real flavours of any barrel aging nor vanilla. Aftertaste shows some thinner malt flavours with no real squash finish, a touch of spices and sugars, but fairly mild, especially for the style. Overall, a pretty mediocre beer for the style, definitely less hearty and flavourful than expected. Not worth buying unless you like lightly spiced brown ales - since this didn’t have any real complexities from the squash or the aging process. Can pour into shaker pint glass from Greg & Jane’s Beer and Wine. Appearance is cloudy dark orange-brown with effervescent sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width beige fizzy head with fair retention and some nice sudsy, leggy lacing. Aroma is sweet pumpkin spices. Taste is lightly sour initially with middle strong burst of sweet pumpkin spice, faintest notes of oak. Sadly, not getting vanilla or rum. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with slippery texture, lively carbonation and mostly sweet finish. Consumed down Merton Village Hall at Shocktober Fest Saturday 29th October 2016 Pours copper with an white head, reasonable clarity, just a bit of haze. Quite the opposite from the Beavertown Stingy Jack in that this has a tart, light sour edge, ok it is a little spicy in the mouth. Its ok but not my favourite. Pours amber with a half finger white head with just a little lacing. Aroma and is of toasted bready malts, pumpkin, pie spices, vanilla, rum, sweet malts, and caramel. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a mostly sweet, medium-long finish. Overall, a decently tasty, interesting pumpkin ale with some nice rum notes.
