UPDATED: DEC 26, 2006 Very good. Similar to flying dog horn dog bw. Not a style I like much but about the best I’ve tried in the style. Just more drinkable, flavorful then others. I tried this in tryeanna pub and found it in bottle at woodmans in madison-- great both ways LtJudge (468) - Muskego, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 29, 2006
Had a pint at the brewery.Poured a redish brown,with tiny head.Had a fruity/alcohol aroma.Flavor is very good,Carmal,fruit,hops with a slightly alcohol finish.This is my first BW,and I thought it was great! MIBRomeo (2570) - Wisconsin, USA - DEC 30, 2005
Brown color full tan head w/ nice lacing. Smell is alcohol, light strawberries (fuegel hop) a large malt presence and a light roast note. Palate is fairly well coated and lightly creamy w/ a touch of stick to it. Flavor is butter, toffee, light carmel, hints of a light fruit and some light raisen. A very average BW. 1FastSTi (3361) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 11, 2005
I had a full glass of this at Tyranena 9/10. It pours to a hazy red/brown body with a thin white head. The flavor is initially strawberries. Then, tons of chocolate and a sweet oak cask cover up on the finish. The palate is hugely creamy. Really thick. Slight alcohol. The aroma is strawberry fruit rollups and roasted chocolate malts. This barley wine is quite different than others I’ve had. I like the massive strawberry hops. Philip (436) - Illinois, USA - AUG 14, 2005
Sampled at the Great Taste of the Midwest, Madison, 8/13/2005. Nose is rich with vanilla, dried apricot, and raisin notes. The palate blends each of these with some malt backbone and a rather biting hop finish. I sampled this one shortly before Great Dane’s Bourbon Barrel Barleywine, and I couldn’t help thinking how much better this one would be with about a year in Knob Creek barrels.

Tyranena spares no money on their hops. This beer is another example of that. I like this beer but wouldn’t make it my favorite due to the bitterness it has. Of course the name keeps me smiling all the while I drink it. As far as Barley Wines go, all of them are good. Spank Me Baby! Barley Wine is no exception to that rule either. Translucent and scarlet amber with a tan, sawdusted, spiderweb head and tight elastic lacing. Suggestive nose of subtle reservation. Brandy buttered dates and hot amaretto liquor. Smokey almond pipe tobacco and liquor-laden cherry cordials. The aroma digs deeper with each inhalation. Heavy, ripe flavored substance. Burnt cherry birch gets smeared with dirty, earthy bitterness and waxy amaretto caramels, altogether sealed in almond-like wax. Soft carbonation gets piped up from the fuller body. Rhubarb leeches onto melted caramels, clinging to grahams and blows with a crème brulee torch for a flavor derivative to seal the deal. Creamy carnauba mouthfeel and pipe tobacco join with synthetic pipe cleaners, emitting a pungent cigar sleeve avec plum bubblegum. Disarenno liquor chases bitter rose hips and slightly crisped plum crème brulee in the finish. Needs some time.
On tap at the brewery, March 2005.
Thick, cloudy, ruby appearance. Creamy head. Smells of sour red grapes, courant and alcohol. First thing to resonate on the palate was alcohol. Warming, up front sour apple taste. Bourbon barrel aging give this one a whiskey & rye complex. Nice stuff.
Near brown color with a small lid on beige bubbles. Pleasant caramel malt aroma with some depth that let you know there is more to come. Very relaxed and mild for the resent releases in this style. Caramel malts and light fruit mingle with light oak and a warming sensation. This seems to have mellowed and is now coming of age. JCapriotti (1379) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 28, 2004
Red/orange color, lasting off-white head. Fruity bubblegum aroma. An average barleywine flavor... nice that it isn’t overhopped, and also isn’t overly sweet. Sticky smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is very good... need to rerate this though as my note taking was lazy. ElGaucho (2401) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - SEP 6, 2004
2004 GTM. Dark brown in color. Thick and rich flavor. My handheld voice recorder began to go on the fritz, so I didn’t have a very thorough rating.
