UPDATED: MAR 29, 2007 ***This is the BOMB!***Pours black w/ a brown maple robe. Froth is shallow and residual lacing is minimal. Aroma is heavily roasted w/ coffee beans. Full nectar w/ soft and creamy residual effers. Huge roasted malts packing a ton of blackened coffee beans. A mild sweetness is upfront . It keeps the roast component interesting, almost turning mexican chili pepper. It’s not complex but sure is tastey. I could drink a few of these in a sitting. The finish is long on flavor w/ a mild, velvet bittering. I savor every sip. Overall: smooth, rich, and heavily roasted. Highly recommended. p/s I’ll be headed to the Betty Ford clinic before long. This stuff is addictive and I’m jonesin’ for another bottle. parkerj (52) - Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - JAN 22, 2014
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2014 A great coffee aroma and flavor. The oatmeal addition works wonders for the mouthfeel. This is one of my favorite beers out there. KingpinIPA (841) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 5, 2007
UPDATED: FEB 28, 2007 On Tap. Dark color. Smell of fresh coffee grounds, spice, vanilla, malt, chocolate and hints of hops and caramel. Taste of fresh roasted coffee. I can actually taste two different coffee beans in my mouth with every sip. Also can taste coco, malt, hops, milk, little bit of smoke, and hints of caramel. Nice and creamy and warms your insides up. Dry, sweet bitterness at the end. Can hardly taste the alcohol and its even better when its warms up. I love the strong coffee smell and taste. Much better than Bells Java and Founders Breakfast! Great job Rob! Mrthirstyneck (341) - Minnesota, USA - MAR 29, 2007
UPDATED: MAR 30, 2007 thick black pour. thick reddish tan head. The aroma is absolutely amazing. drink very smooth. superb on the ol’ palate, and balanced very nicely. I’m a porter fan and this one is likely the best yet.! GRAB one if you can LIMITED RELEASE, probably all GONE:( jj21 (84) - Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 4, 2008
Pours black, black, black with a dense HUGE head and cascades down into the body like Guinness, then lies still. Aromas of coffee are powerful. Maybe a little too much, but still delightful. Intense flavors of coffee, chocolate malts with just enough hops. Thick and rich is an understatement. This is like drinking a milkshake in a pint glass. Leaves you wanting another. This is one outstanding brew! Right up there with Founders Breakfast Stout as far as quality for the flavor profile.

Damn near black pour, very thick, with a slight tan head. Lots of toffee and coffee beans in the aroma…mmm. Rich, full bodied and creamy, velvety on the tongue. Lots of coffee flavor balances with burnt malts, chocolate and toffee. Some sweetness, but well balanced. This beer is damn near perfect. Thanks Jeff! hellbilly (3249) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - JUL 8, 2007
UPDATED: SEP 17, 2007 acquired in trade from incutrav...arigato! nice black pour the devil would be proud of. aromas of coffee beans, sweet malts and anise. flavor is dominated by dark roasted espresso beans. as it warms the coffee steps aside to reveal vinous flavors, dark dried fruits and star anise. very creamy rich mouth feel and a bitter after taste like i’ve got espresso beans tucked in my gums. i cried a little when i finished it knowing i can’t get it here...4.7
rerated 9/17/07...second bottle with 2/2/07 label. clearly starting to lose the coffee bite in the aroma and flavor that was enjoyed the first time around. creaminess is amped but bitterness is more like stale cold coffee than fresh. 4 User37895 (3042) - - DEC 8, 2007
Bottle from Bockyhorsey. Pour was full deep black-brown, very nice slowly developing head settled to the top, nice in size, great retention, wonderful lacing. The aroma was a full and robust coffee with some supporting chocolate, dry roastiness. The flavor was outstanding, top notch among its coffee stout or porter peers, nearly perfect coffee flavors melded with a light chocolate underneath, very detectable dry oatmeal too with some breadiness underneath. The mouthfeel was incredible, silky smooth, wonderful dryness to make this one of the best balanced full coffee brews I’ve had, the farthest thing from sticky, yet a bold brew. Great job, Tyranena, and a super duper thanks to Bill and Wendy for this selection, simply outstanding! jaymobrown (1845) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 8, 2013
