A very nice scotch ale. Pours a clear orange color with a white head. Smells of scotch malt and bourbon. Taste is lots of vanilla upfront, followed by scotch, bourbon and a smokiness. Paired with cordon bleu, brings out more maltiness and citrus. Had in the bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle from Steve’s (University Ave) in Madison WI, served at cellar temp in a Maudite glass. Pours medium to dark amber, clear - very light for style - with a smallish mostly lasting off-white head...bourbon, vanilla, butterscotch dominate the aromatics at first; a hint of mint intrudes on these sweet smells and adds a little herbal complexity...coffee...very sweet in the mouth, and the bourbon-vanilla character stays with it, but there’s some nice roasty-smoky touches as well, and the underlying caramel malts are developed well enough in a full body to give it some depth...at the finish, slightly drier, faintly tart...alcohol just barely noticeable. Not a great Scotch Ale but respectable enough and quite easy-drinking for it’s weight and sweetness.

Deep Amber brown our with aromas of caramel and toffee with some light chocolate and some bourbon. Flavors are the same but also had some soy poke throw and light cardboard but the Flavors were there, maybe too much age on this, would try again.

APPEARANCE - Appreciating the dark tan/brown. NOSE - light bourbon scent, not overpowering like a lot of barrel aged beers. FLAVOR - One of the best barrel aged beers I’ve had. Nice balance of barrel aged flavor - not overpowering. NOTES - Definilty top of the line barrel aged beers available.

"i’ll never tire of the barel aging "trend". this beer takes the already very good sheep shagger and adds a bit of peppery bourbon, an even smoother body, and vanilla and oak. excellent. another pfoxyjohn brew."

9/12/2014: Tyranena Shaggin’ in the Wood (70% Scotch Ale Aged In Bourbon Barrels, 30% Scotch Ale)... Cloudy golden copper color with a dense ivory head. Bourbony and sugary maltiness and a hint of caramelized maltiness. The flavor has some bourbon, but not overly so, along with some caramelized sugar, hidden coffee-like roastiness, slight mild hops in the finish. Absolutely delicious. Medium-palate, but feels a bit thin on the palate. Regardless, it’s delicious! Well done Tyranena.

Pours dark amber with thin off-white head. The nose is smoky peat, chocolate and caramel. The taste is bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt and caramel. Medium semi-creamy mouthfeel. Nice beer. 4

Pour is clear burnt brown with red hues and a light yellowish head. Nose is strong charred wood and fairly deep malt aromas. Chocolate, bourbon, burnt caramel and brown sugar. Taste is the same, chocolate, woody, cooked caramel and brown sugar, notes of peat and bourbon through the finish. Body is soft and airy, not too thick with good carbonation but thins out in finish and a little watery. Not a bad beer.
