On tap at brewery, pours an unclear brown with a thin head, aroma is sweet with malt and a hint of grape sourness, the flavor has more sour funkness to it than I was expecting, different take on a brown. 1FastSTi (3360) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 14, 2011
Tap @ Tyranena. The beer pours to a brown body with a thin white head. The aroma is too light. Mostly brown malt, but not much else. The flavor is quite malty with some sweet grape finish. Buttery too. Medium bodied and leaves me thirsty. I like the other brown ale stuff much better. pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 5, 2010
sampled at GTMW 2010...medium semi-transparent caramel pour alongside a thin soapy head... nutty brown aroma and flavor that had an accompanying red fruitiness attributed to the cab barrel that came through in the middle and finish. deyholla (11503) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - AUG 17, 2010
Sampled from the tap at the 2010 GTMW. Poured a clear light brown with a gray brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma had a nice cabernet note with a bread and grain base. Flavor was sweet grain and bread with a bit of roast and the cabernet coming out in the finish. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 10, 2010
On tap at Tyranena. Poured clear reddish-amber with a light cap of whitish head. The aroma picked up sweet caramel and earthy notes with red grapes accenting.. honey and vanilla along with a touch of bright oak emerged as it breathed.. sweet and enjoyable. The flavor found lots of sweet vinous, toasty vanilla, and nutty notes all the way through.. some sharp bitterness accented, but was hard to place.. sticky with a hefty dose of barrel present. Medium-bodied and lightly-carbonated.. a bit sour from the barrel, but that was for the most part complementary to the base beer.. well-balanced and tasty, but not great.

Aroma was thin hint of tart fruit and a little brownie chocolate mix. There was a tiny heading to it, flavor was mostly from the wine barrel, muted cabernet flavor, given even a more winey impression by its lack of carbonation, given even yet a more wine feel because of the huge astrignet afterfeel on palate, Maybe a hint of that choclateness of malt but that malt was really struggling to become evident. Very interesting to taste, but would probaly pass on another opportunity Skyview (5932) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - APR 26, 2010
On draught at the brewery’s Taproom in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. Pours a clear dark amber colored brew with no head or carbonation. Aroma of tart cherry, light caramel malt and a hint of chocolate. Taste is medium bodied, no carbonation with flavors of vanilla, tart berry, chocolate and caramel. Finish is slightly metallic at first and then a mild tart berry aftertaste. Nice brown color with a reddish hue. Strong vinous nose with a biscuity character. Really buttery initially, but the cab eventually shines through. The warmer it gets the more of the base beer shines through. Very nice and a treat to have a wine barrel used!! coharahawk (170) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 10, 2010
Tap at brewery. Pours dark brown with smallish off-white head. Lots of fruity (esp cherry) notes with a little roast and oak. Flavor is complex with cherry, dark fruit, roast, chocolate, and some subdued oaky/wood tones. Finishes dry with a little EtOH warmth. Fairly thin body. Interesting beer.
