12oz bottle pours a dark amber/brown with a medium khaki head. Fruity aroma with caramel and cocoa, oaky vanilla, and a touch of bourbon. Oak and bourbon are on the forefront of the palate with sweet caramel malt underneath. Yep bourbon in a brown ale.

12oz. bottle. Aroma of sweet brown malts, nutty with touches of bourbon, hazelnut, vanilla, dark bread and brown sugar. Clear medium brown in color with a nonexistent head and therefore no lacing to speak of. Flavor is similar to aroma, except with a touch more hop bitterness than expected, nice nutty malt finish, some hop spice also. Thin and effervescent mouthfeel, body is medium. Touch of earthiness late. Interesting stuff.

Bottle. Brown pour with tan head. Malty tones, light oak and sweet aromas. Roasted and sweet malt flavors, chocolate and oak.

12 oz stubby poured into rocks glass. Mostly clear brown body with red highlights and a tan head. Some retention and a bit of patchy lace. Barrel notes of bourbon and vanilla, roasty and caramel malts, a touch of chocolate. Taste is bready with caramel and roasted nuts, some vanilla and cocoa powder. A good balance between these sweet and bitter components. Medium body, moderate carbonation, creamy texture, bitter oak and roast finish.

2oz taster on tap, at HopCat Broad Ripple. Clear orange red color. Thin off-white head, leaves good thicker lace. Good vanilla, nutty aroma. Kind of toasty. Medium body. Mild caramel. Smooth, kind of crisp, light soft, lighter carbonation, kind of creamy texture, lightly slick. Moderate sweet taste, lighter bitter. Mild earthy kind of spicy hops. Nice brown ale.

Not my thing. A deep chocolate color, with a foamy white head. A brown ale with a hint of bourbon. I am sure this is good if you are a fan of the style, but I am not.

DuffMan (10270) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 18, 2014
Bottle. Deep red-brown, low off white head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, light bourbon notes. Flavours of chocolate malt, vanilla (Maltesers come to mind), light rounded bourbon notes. Medium bodied but balanced, on the sweeter end of the spectrum. Decent.

Bottle brought back from Wisconsin by my lovely wife. A: Solid mahogany with a firm fluffy off-white head. Lacing. N: Pecan, toffee, hint of bourbon, vanilla, and coconut. Dominated by sweet biscuit. Cocoa, roasted coffee beans, and hints of char. T: Nose is quite nice. Palate picks up light malt and light bitterness. Disappointing here. M: Quite watery. Light body. O: Not sure what the disconnect is between body and nose, but it’s not altogether enjoyable to drink from the bottle.
