Phenols dominate the nose. Color is spot on for a Scotch Ale. A bit too chocolately for my tastes, but I’m not complaining. Good balance of malt sweetness that hits you for a second up front followed by the abundance of chocolate. ccex (1366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 17, 2013
12 oz; bottle pours a clear red.amber with average white head and iittle lacing. Aroma has caramel, brown sugar, and perhaps some nuts in the finsih. Tastes dlightly sweet. Body is light to medijm. Very easy to drink. Good but not great. dinkle50 (1532) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 5, 2013
Clear red pour with a little lace. Aroma of caramel. Taste is slightly smokey with lots of sweet caramel. Mouth is heavy and thick. starewich (170) - - JAN 3, 2013
Earthy, spicy. Pretty standard. Watery but sticky. It’s tasty enough but doesn’t swing for the fences.

On tap at FFF. brownish copper color. roasted barley and some pete. lighter than other scotch ales despite the higher ABV. some sweet malts. Compared to Robert the Bruce or Dirty bastard. this just doesnt cut it OnWisconsin (140) - Wisconsin, USA - DEC 23, 2012
Appearance was cloudy brown with just a thin head. Aroma was mellow bready/toast and caramel sweetness with a hint of smoke. Taste with very smooth with a nice nuttiness at first finishing with a nice sweet caramel. Mouthfeel is what made this beer as it was a nice medium and smooth body with just a hint of carbonation to tease the tongue. Let this warm up to 55 degrees. demmbonz (784) - Erin, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 22, 2012
12oz bottle. White head. Clear. Sweet and malty. Aroma is malt and grain. Prickly carbonation. jcr (2763) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - DEC 6, 2012
Bottle. Clear, deep amber body. Fizzy, off-white head rapidly diminishing. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, toffee and a hint of raw grain. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Lots of malt flavor. The sweet caramel is balanced by peaty, toasted grain in the flavor. Some hints of herbal hops. madvike (3301) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 25, 2012
On tap - Pours deep brown with a thin tan head. Nose is huge waves of malt, light smokiness, and some sweet toffee notes. Taste is the same, with a nice bready maltiness, peaty smokiness, and a touch of heat. Really bold. Pretty thick and well carbonated.
