We brewed our 2009 version of our Scotch Ale and will be tapping on ObamaNight (Jan 20, 08) as InaugurAle. We have slightly altered the recipe from last year, marginally increasing the amount of peated malt and using the traditional ingredient of roasted barley (just a wee bit)... we removed a dark caramel malt and replaced with a special malt that should also contribute well to the overall character. As always, we use plenty of Scotland’s finest Golden Promise as well as our Wisconsin base malt.

Appearance was cloudy brown with just a thin head. Aroma was mellow bready/toast and caramel sweetness with a hint of smoke. Taste with very smooth with a nice nuttiness at first finishing with a nice sweet caramel. Mouthfeel is what made this beer as it was a nice medium and smooth body with just a hint of carbonation to tease the tongue. Let this warm up to 55 degrees.

Bottle via trade from backlog notes. Pours a dark reddish amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, mild peat, light smoke, dark fruits, maybe a touch thin, good enough.

Drake (14078) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 20, 2017
Keg at the brewery. Clear brown, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of toffee and earth. Taste is earth, toffee, berries. Medium bodied. Simple, made well.

DrnkMcDermott (3136) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - JAN 19, 2017
Bottled on 19 Nov 2015. Brown toast malt smell under the nose. Just a tiny bit of Scotch peat. But the peaty note does get stronger as the beer spreads out in the glass. Hazy brown body with lots of floaties in it. Taste has plenty of malt, just a little smoke, and warming alcohol. No phenol found, this beer has aged very well, but is gladly enjoyed right now.

Bottle. Quite malty aroma. Color is brown like strong tea with an off white head that quickly dissipates. Nice malty flavor. Full bodied. Overall, a fine example of a Scotch Ale!

jmohno (1662) - Iowa, USA - APR 24, 2016

Smooth sweet, spice, some citrus. nice finish. Got this on sale 6$ well worth that! Pretty nice scotch ale maybe one of the better Ive ever had.

Bottle. Amber color, smallish tan head with not much retention and no lacing. Nose is caramel malt, toffee, brown sugar, candied orange. Mouth is creamy, medium sweet, lots of toffee, nutty malt, toasted pumpernickel, maple sugar. Blackhawks and Rangers getting ready to drop the puck at the Garden. Make no mistake... I live in Chicago, but I ain’t from here. I’m from the 216 (22 years removed) and a grew up a Rangers fan watching WOR on cable). LGR!!!

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2016 Solid grain aroma. Solid grain flavor. Very impressive solid scotch ale. Very thick on the tongue. Malty sweet. Balanced with a bit over sweetness. Toasty. On draft at the brewery. Rerate in bottle. Not much of a head.

djd07 (15544) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAY 10, 2015
