Test vom 5.11.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,6,3,3,10,4 - 4,80

Cloudy amber pour with a huge head and a great cascade effect when it came to the table. Aroma of apple and sugar. Alcohol is super hidden in the sweetness. Way too easy to drink. Palate is creamy.

27/02 A 0.33 l bottle from the brewpub. It poured hazy brown body with medium sized head. Sourish aroma, fruity malty, especially plums, apples and oranges. Fruity flavor, sourish more than sweet, quite well balanced. Full in body with nice long, sweetish and only slightly tart finish. Alcohol is present of course but not too much. It’s a nice brew, which might easily be infected but it only benefited from it generally. Strictly as a bock it would fail of course.

Tap @ brewery in Prague. Fairly clear, dark orangish brown appearance wit ha nice sized, light brown head. Fruit syrup, rich sugary, toffee, dried fruit aroma. Ultra sugary, very cloying, mildly metallic, raspberry fruit syrup, burnt sugar, light caramel flavor. Very cloying and over the top sugar count with a bad metallic note. I remember thinking this wasn’t bad on my previous trip but it was horrible during this visit. I think it’s just a sugar/alcohol bomb.

BlackHaddock (7672) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 30, 2012
Brown 33cl flip-top bottle with a freshness date of 31st Oct 2009, drank and reviewed on 21st July 2009. Obtained from the brew-pub while on a boozy trip to Prague. Poured carefully into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru branded tulip glass. Looked like a redish stout or porter, not fully black, more a deep ruby red colour. Dense and misty, the tan head that arrived at first soon left leaving just a thin collar. Smells like a sour cherry beer (Rodenbach wise), a sweetness came as the beer warmed and after I’d tasted it. The sweetness didn’t wait for any warmth in the taste, it hits you straight away, very un-Rodenbach like in taste, although I’ve heard they have sweetened it now. I’ve had a few rearly strong lager based beers over the years and this one isn’t as sweet as some, but never-the-less it isn’t a beer for those that don’t have a sweet tooth. The aftertaste is boarding on sickly, the rich sweetness stays a little to long in the mouth. I can see why other reviewers have complained about the sweet nature of the beer and the lack of an alcohol feel. The sweetness certainly hides the alcohol very well, but I wouldn’t want to drive a car, even after only one!

Hazy toffee color. Big light tan head, plenty of lacing and rings as it sticks around for a while. Big malty aroma with some raisin and molasses aromas. Taste is sweet molasses and malt. Nice beer. The alcohol is very well hidden behind the big sugary sweetness.

Bottle courtesy of and shared with heavy. Lovely opaque amber-red body with a beige head. Nose... Nicely infected malty nose. Yeah, bugs attacked this one and helped it immensely with the tartness... Fruity notes, full body, sweetish, bit sticky. Kinda balanced, heck, if this was only intentional. Bit yeasty, bit of a 2-trick pony, but hey. Nice fruity whateverbock.

Foffern (1982) - Bodø, NORWAY - JAN 6, 2012
Bottle at home. 1 year old. Dark golden redbrown colour. Aromas of port, wild berries and sweet liqueur. The sweet complex flavours hits you in the face. Here is everything: cola ice cream, syrup, wood, cherries, ice tea, leather, raisins. It feels also a bit vinous and reminds me of cough mixture. This is not a ordinary beer and for me this is too sweet and sticky.

BelgiskOlklub (1085) - Viby J, DENMARK - DEC 22, 2011
Slightly hazy golden brown body and a small creamy off-white head. Aroma of plums, lots of malt, prunes, dried fruits, alcohol, port wine. Medium to heavy sweet, light bitter and acid finish. Thich oily texture and sticky on the lips.

3fourths (9358) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 14, 2011
draft. acid metal nose with a strong dark caramel and plum malt character. sticky and thick with harsh alcohol and unpalatable acid. infection for sure, though I’m also sure the brewery finds it perfectly acceptable. oak tannins are overly strong and candy sweetness is overbearing. a fruity berry ester and vinegar acid mess..
