Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Dark copper/red with a small whitish head. Complex malty aromas that includes caramel, hazelnut and a strong dark cherries presence. Full bodied, very classy malts, hints of bitterness in the back of the tongue all wrapped up in this multi layered malt bed. Very nice and classic alt.

330mL bottle from Vintage Wines. Dark malty aromas, raisiny, toasty. Clear deep brown with a somewhat lasting off-white head. Complex malty flavors, toasty, raisiny dried fruit. Full bodied, very smooth.

Bottle. Murky dark brown pour without much head. Aroma is boozy, lots of raisin, some toffee. Taste is raisin, plum, slight toffee. Complex and balanced, but virtually no carbonation, unfortunately.

Winish aroma with some tones of dark bread, some plum, dried fruitiness and sugar. Dark amber in the glass with a medium head. Taste is really dry with deep, nutty astringent note, some plum, red fruitiness, dark bread with caramelly background. Not for me – really sticky, astringent and overwhelming, but I appreciate.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2017 Pours a dark, murky brown coloration with a medium, fizzy head that dissipates quickly, leaving a thin blanket on the beer. Smells of rich, bready, caramel malts, toffee and dark, dried fruit (plum, fig), with just a hint of chocolate and booziness coming through. Taste is quite complex. The malts and sweetness hit you first, revealing notes of toffee, dark bread and molasses, followed by a noticeable booziness. Then the dried fruit comes through, with quite a rich fig/plum aroma. At this point, the bitterness sets in, which starts off quite strong, then becomes more bittersweet in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is quite rich and thick. This is one of those beers that you can really admire for their rich, complex flavor profile, but would never have more than one of in a single evening. I'm really not sure if that's a good thing.

Dark brown/cider color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, rich caramel, toffee, some dark fruit, & spice; Flavor roasted sweet malt, molasses, caramel, spicy hops, nuts, and dark fruit; Finish is slightly bitter; The alcohol is well hidden; Nicely balanced and complex; Overall, very good - I enjoyed it.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2017 Many thanks for this rare Altbier to Mariusz. Bottled on 02/2006. Almost 12 years old Altbier. Fantastyczny i nieco inny i swietnie zaskakujacy Alt z Dusseldorfu. Fantastyczny efekt. Wyglad to rudo bordowa barwa. Majstersztyk. Bardzo polecam do lezakowania. Raz jeszcze dziekuje Mariuszowi za zdobycie tego piwa (to bylo pare lat temu, a moze i wieki). Pozdrawiam

Ciemne piwo koloru mocnej herbaty, piana kremowa dość obfita, szybko opada. Aromat głównie słodowy, trochę karmelu, rodzynek, goździków. W smaku podobnie głównie nuty słodowe, karmel, ciemne owoce, finisz wytrawny.

bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Deep amber pour with a small tan head. Lovely hearthy, rustic, bready, fruity & earthy German life.
