Bigger, brawner version of the classic Dusseldorf altbier. Like alt, this beer has fantastic hop aroma, clean maltiness, and a zesty and snappy hop bite. Uerige Sticke pours to a beautiful, bright, deep copper color, with a thick white head, and a good carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with lots of good herbal/grassy hop aromas, and aromas of toast and nuts. The palate is smooth and round, with clean, smooth toasty and nutty malt flavor. Uerige Sticke finishes with more smooth malt up front, then ends with a zesty burst of herbal/grassy hop bittereness that lingers. I love this beer style, and Uerige to me is the bench mark example of sticke and alt. A must try beer for anyone who loves altbier. pivnizub (10576) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - MAR 24, 2005
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2012 A gem among the german "ales", dark ruby coloured; extremely full bodied, sweetish in the beginning, a "warm welcome" from the brewer; astonishingly easy to drink for a beer of this strength (6,5%) ! Superbly rounded with a long, long hoppy aftertaste, caused by umbelled hops. Served only on two days a year. Worth a journey !
Re-rated: (Sticke-Day 18/10/05) One of the most pefect brews You can find in Europe !!!!!! Bigsilky (327) - Charleston, USA - OCT 8, 2005
Crisp, wonderful body, and brisk hops. Certainly worth the money, even if you are paying a little extra for the bottle. Truly classic and really unlike anything else coming from germany. Makes me want to rent a flat in Dusseldorf. kraemer420 (14) - Terre Haute, Indiana, USA - JAN 24, 2009
A spicy rasin feel to this amber brown colored beer.. taste is complex in nature and has a nice crisp finish.. Enjoy tiggmtl (4545) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 10, 2004
Strong hop nose - very fresh, vaguely sweet, but all hops. Clear amber brown with white head that recedes to a thick ring. Nicely balanced. Quietly exciting flavour. Strong malt base subsumed with hops that traverse from flavouring to bittering - grassy, herbal, floral, with malt sweetness coming back in the finish. Mild tannins noticeable. Good light carbonation. Firmly medium body. Very enjoyable and a pretty bottle too. Enjoyed with MartinT and Rastacouere. Bottle.

at the source from the barrell on the Sticke day!; I never knew Altbier could be so complex. Hoppy nose, with hint of caramel and smoke. Extremely complex palate, a lot of hops and malt, smooth mouthfeel with a kind of hoppy smokey finish. This was extremely good and enjoyed in a great atmosphere at the brewpub. ruffian (149) - montvale, New Jersey, USA - OCT 19, 2005
Direct from the barrel. Incredibly malt. You could smell the caramel notes from outside the brewery. Thick body that seemed to melt on the tongue. Nice hop in the end with bitterness to balance the malt body. Amber color, creamy white head. GreatLibations (1854) - Last Supper, Arizona, USA - MAY 19, 2006
Pours an amber copper color with a shallow creamy froth. Comes in a bottle shaped like a German granade. Aroma is of malted biscuits. Very nice. I am already impressed. I am waiting to take a sip. Trying to imagine the texture and flavor. Here I go. WOW, not knowing what to expect at all, this has turned into a very surprising result. I am still impressed. Flavors are dry and malty with a fresh biscuit tropshire. A creamy texture like an English bitter. A nicely ballanced sour bittering on the finish. This is a brew you can drink all day. Well ballanced, alcohol is well hidden and flavors are perfect. I love it when the bitterness is consumed with a malty backbone. Keeps you hanging in the ballance. Highly recommended. elektrogeist (158) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JUN 15, 2006
12oz bottle from lee’s liquor: pours a deep red with very silky smooth looking foam, but not much of it. some aromas going on i can’t quite identify, but good. fantastic flavor from the dark malts and hops, they hit the nail right on the head. powerful flavor, but not at all overpowering and a very tasty drink and a very distinct aftertaste. i’ll be getting more of this.. plus i like the bottles. ;) MaBeer1972 (2042) - Taunton, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 17, 2010
My second tasting in the Uerige alt "trilogy". Bottle dated 02-10. A deep reddish brown brew with wonderful head and carbonation. Wonderful fruity malty and spice aromas. Mouthfeel is a bit heavier than the previous alt. Very smooth though with deep sweet malts, raisin and plum notes. Excellently balanced by the spice and bitter hops which finish it off. Great stuff!
