Imperial Oatmeal Stout Aged in Cognac Casks - Aged for 19 months in French Cognac casks. Back in 2015 when we released lekker bakkie kobi, we brewed two more batches and kept it far, far away from everyone. This brew was stored in our Willy Wonka Style barrel room. The first to release is this batch of kobi aged in Cognac casks. It was planned to be stuffed with coffee afterwards, but we enjoyed it too much without. Kobi Cognac deconstructed the whole idea of a digestive and developed over time into the best after-dinner-beer ever. EVER.

Prachtig Bakkie Kobi!

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Cotteridge, Birmingham, consumed at Cabbage Moors Campsite, nr Cambridge, Saturday 6th May 2017 Pours black with a beige head. A little fizziness on the tongue the cognac is really big, its an absolute beast of a boozy beer in the mouth. There is a little black treacle along with the cognac but I keep coming back to the cognac. I like it I just wish it wasnt so strong. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Good dark tan head over virtually black beer, hiding some serious UFOs. Cognac, sweet brandy, bit of (meat)roast (mounting), lightly mineral, X-mas cake, laurel, vinous. Pretty sweet, again pastry, mineral, quite roasted with lots of cognac, alcohol, liqueur, fusels, winecasks, cake with crme Anglaise. Hot-alcoholic, syrupy consistence, voluptuous. Pretty serious bakkie troost.

Drank 22-4 while writing. Bb 01-18, so given the high ABV of the beer that might say something about the age of the bottle? Anyway, loved this beer!! Alcoholic, cognac-y smell and very rich taste with a thick body. Lot of sweetness, but not simple/artifical/too sugary. Cognac is perfectly balanced. Very, very good.

(Uiltje Lekker Bakkie Kobi (Cognac BA)) Bottle 330ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 14.9% Pitch black colour on the body, small but thick dark briwn head on top with good retention. Aroma of alcohol, cognac, spirits, soy sauce, dark chocolate. Amazing taste, dark fruits, alcohol, cognac, it tastes like a good porto wine, some roasted character underneath and wood, more cognac on the finish. Thick body, nicely carbonated, smooth on the palate. Great beer.

Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge. Pours deep brown with the colour and consistency of chocolate sauce. Pretty gloopy looking stuff. Brown head lasts about five seconds. Aroma leaves you in no doubt that this has been in a barrel. Heavy cognac and raisin. Some very pleasant light carbonation - probably more than I was expecting given its general look. Powerful barrel hits you straight away on tasting, again with raisins and a sherry-like booziness. Long finish with malt, vanilla and a crystalised sugariness. Radical though it may seem, and maybe reflecting my broken tastebuds, there are some elements here that reminded me of Dark Lord. In particular, the ripasso-y dried fruit aroma and fortified wine/sherry-like taste. Not as complex, but pretty outstanding stuff and probably a bit underrated on here. This is not subtle beer. Some will say it is too sweet, too much barrel or that they cant finish it. These people are crybabies and should grow a feral beard and go to a CAMRA festival in some sort of sweaty marquee. Also, future versions should have a wax seal. I am a sucker for a wax seal.
