Imperial Oatmeal Stout Aged in Cognac Casks - Aged for 19 months in French Cognac casks. Back in 2015 when we released ‘lekker bakkie kobi’, we brewed two more batches and kept it far, far away from everyone. This brew was stored in our Willy Wonka Style barrel room. The first to release is this batch of kobi aged in Cognac casks. It was planned to be stuffed with coffee afterwards, but we enjoyed it too much without. Kobi Cognac deconstructed the whole idea of a digestive and developed over time into the best after-dinner-beer ever. EVER.

33cl bottle at home. Appearance: pitchblack with low, fast dissipating, tan head. Aroma: applejuice, peach drink, café latte, raisins.Taste: high sweetness and low to medium bitterness. Notes of applesauce, peach yoghurt drink, apricot, molasses, brown sugar, coffee. Palate: full bodied, sticky texture and low to medium carbonation. I expected more bitterness, but since it's an imperial oatmeal stout, the sweetness suits this beer. Still that apple problem.

Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, wood vanilla, dark fruit, chocolate, mocha and roasted malts.

Opaque dark brown/black beer with medium yeast and with a slight brown head.

Starts heavy sweet with malts, caramel, wood, vanilla, dark fruit, chocolate, mocha and roasted malts.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. God damn it, that is one hell of a sweet beer with loads of wood and cognac. Definitely could have used that extra coffee at the end. Perfect appearance and a great aroma and palate as well.

330ml bottle from Chez Sophie, drunk whilst watching Trainspotting 2. Pours black, small deep tan head. Huge cognac aroma. Taste is super slick, rich, oily with a booze-drenched character, lots of cognac with some dark chocolate coming through. It’s a beast, no doubt about that.

Prachtig Bakkie Kobi!

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Cotteridge, Birmingham, consumed at Cabbage Moors Campsite, nr Cambridge, Saturday 6th May 2017 Pours black with a beige head. A little fizziness on the tongue the cognac is really big, it’s an absolute beast of a boozy beer in the mouth. There is a little black treacle along with the cognac but I keep coming back to the cognac. I like it I just wish it wasn’t so strong. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Good dark tan head over virtually black beer, hiding some serious UFO’s. Cognac, sweet brandy, bit of (meat)roast (mounting), lightly mineral, X-mas cake, laurel, vinous. Pretty sweet, again pastry, mineral, quite roasted with lots of cognac, alcohol, liqueur, fusels, winecasks, cake with crème Anglaise. Hot-alcoholic, syrupy consistence, voluptuous. Pretty serious bakkie troost.

Drank 22-4 while writing. Bb 01-18, so given the high ABV of the beer that might say something about the age of the bottle? Anyway, loved this beer!! Alcoholic, cognac-y smell and very rich taste with a thick body. Lot of sweetness, but not simple/artifical/too sugary. Cognac is perfectly balanced. Very, very good.

(Uiltje Lekker Bakkie Kobi (Cognac BA)) Bottle 330ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 14.9% Pitch black colour on the body, small but thick dark briwn head on top with good retention. Aroma of alcohol, cognac, spirits, soy sauce, dark chocolate. Amazing taste, dark fruits, alcohol, cognac, it tastes like a good porto wine, some roasted character underneath and wood, more cognac on the finish. Thick body, nicely carbonated, smooth on the palate. Great beer.

33cl Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Small brown head, disappeared within seconds. Black body. Nose of sweet liquorice, toffee, light cognac and soy, marzipan, roast, dark sugars/sweets, alcohol... Flavours of marzipan, toffee, prunes, brown sticky sugars, raisin, cognac, alcohol burn, light liquorice... tasty! Aftertaste is raisin and prunes, cognac, port, alcohol burn, sticky Low carbo, creamy oily spicy mouthfeel, full bodied. Burning alcohol sensation. Thick and rich. One of the better beers from t Uiltje!
