COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Come on, you know you wanna. Come on! You know you havta. Resistance is futile. See that chap sitting next to you? He’s sipping it. See that dainty bird next to him? She is too. And because they’re drinking it, so should you. Just think of our cocky black barley wine as conformity’s popular back-alley watering hole. Hopped excessively and aged in a cask of 1996 Morlach single malt whisky filled with delicious Dutch pears. Peer Pressure is our heavily tattooed Prom Queen. Sexy and assertive at 15,6%. She makes the rules; the herd follows. That’s Peer Pressure, brewed by false gods and drunk by their complying disciples.

Alengrin (6017) - BELGIUM - JAN 2, 2018
Uiltjes extremely powerful, barrel aged dark barleywine enriched with pear, bottle at Struise shop in Bruges. Moussy, medium thick, pale greyish beige, slowly opening head, very dark chestnut brown robe bordering on black. Aroma of sherry, black cherries, madera, brown rum, beef broth, wet old wood, spiced brandy, candied dates, cola, raisins. Sweet onset, candied dates and raisins but noticeable pear as well, light sourish touch and thin beefy umami accent, dried banana; thick, vinous, softly carbonated body. Thick and resinous caramelly and nutty malt sweetness, very mildly bitterish in the end but sweetness keeps prevailing, accentuated by the expected, long, rum- and sherry-like alcohol in the finish, embellished by herbal hoppy notes and a soft tannic woody note; sweet pear accent lingers. Very rich and luscious, ambitious ale, lovely like most of Uiltje's creations, and handling its own towering ABV very well.

Pours dark brown with ruby reflexes and small head. Aroma: dried fruit, a bit of caramel, countered by a nice sour touch from red fruit. Taste:nice full taste of dark fruit and a bit of vanilla, but followed by a pretty intense alcohol flavor (although I enjoyed the beer two years after bottling and pretty cold). May age well but too alcoholic and pretty one-dimensional in the taste.

Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Very dark reddish brown with beige head. Rye bread, red berries, quite some old whisky with maybe a touch of sherry cask, brown sugar. Quite some oxidized notes. Apple syrup, dusty wood, alcohol. Quite sweet, with medium bitterness and a tart kick in the finish. Full bodied with quite some alcohol but still OK for the abv. It’s quite complex and interesting, but I’m having trouble finishing my 1/3rd bottle here. A bit too much.

Bottle shared by "hannont". Colour...dark brown with a thin head. Nose...papier mache and some malt powder. Palate...thin, tangy and fruity with some boozy burn and oak. The mid palate is sweet and there’s still some papier-mâché which is a bit of a turnoff.

Bottle, bought at the release a while back. Pours a deep dark amber beer with a very small, off white head on top. Aroma of some smokey whisky, stonefruits, booze, red fruits, big malty base and caramel. Flavor is very sweet, with a tingling sensation of burning alcohol in the front. The pears give it a nice, subtle fruity note while the whisky amps up the oomph in this beer. Syrupy mouthfeel, slight alcohol burn in start and finish, very malt forward and overall a great beer. Very nice.

Bottle as a birthday gift from Pix. Cheers! Pours black with a nice frothy beige head. The aroma has pear, treacle, tar and a fair bit of booze. The flavour is full and rich with lots of flavours going on. Sweet pear at the start with toffee and spice before lots of treacle and liquorice in the finish. Smoky whisky notes run through it and linger in the bitter finish. The alcohol is quite well hidden. It’s got surprisingly high carbonation leading to a full mouthfeel. Interesting and very enjoyable.

33cl bottle at home, bottling date 03/08/15. I’ve been looking forward drinking this. Appearance: pitch black with low beige head. Aroma: whisky, oak, vanilla, vinous, a tad vinegar acidity, cinnamon, dried red fruits, pear. Taste: high sweetness with pretty high bitterness. Notes of red fruits, pear, syrup, brown sugar, whisky, vanilla and coffee. Finish is more bitter with yeast present and notes of dried fruits, dates and coffee. Despite the high ABV, it isn’t boozy. Palate: full bodied, sticky texture and moderate carbonation. Very good, but just didn’t meet my expectations.

Na 1,5 jaar geschonken. Heerlijke geuren van fruit en whisky, komt ook in de smaak terug. Peer proef ik niet, wel een heerlijke fruitige smaak die mooi overgaat in whisky. Heerlijk.
