As part of the “Ales for ALS™” Campaign to Battle Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Uinta Brewing Company releases their 2013 ALS Ale, a Session Wheat IPA. Uinta joined 37 National Craft Breweries in the Ales for ALS™ campaign in support of ALS Therapy Development Institute. Ales for ALS™ is a unique craft brewery-based fundraising initiative created to accelerate drug development for ALS patients today. As part of the program, participant brewers received a special blend of experimental hops donated by B.T. Loftus Ranches and Hopunion. With these hops, Uinta chose to brew a unique, Session Wheat IPA. Uinta’s ALS Wheat Ale combines the flavors and body of a wheat ale with the hop characteristics of an IPA. Citrusy with subtle notes of pepper and white grape this wheat-IPA was brewed with forty percent malted wheat and dry hopped with the proprietary Ales for ALS™ experimental hop blend. The limited amount (only 20 bbls were brewed) of Uinta’s Ales for ALS brew can be found on draught in Uinta’s Brewhouse Pub, Uinta’s Beer Garden at Granary Row (Between 300 and 400 W, 700 S, Salt Lake City), and at select locations where Uinta beers are distributed. A percentage of all proceeds will be donated to ALS Therapy Development Institute in support of developing effective treatment for Lou Gehrig’s disease. More information on the Ales for ALS™ campaign can be found at www.alesforals.com.

Draft pint at Beer Bar SLC. Hazy orange color with a khaki head of tiny bubbles that lasts. Fruity aroma of orange, citrusy hops. Very mellow flavor that tastes a little like blood orange juice but finishes with orange pith bitterness. Would not have guessed in a million tries that this is a lager. Great beer.

Tap at G-Town Paradiso. Zesty citra(?) hop aroma. Maintains the thick yeasty characteristics of a hefe and incorporates melon hop flavors. Medium bodied, but approaching full with the big flavors and yeasty richness. A solid beer. Well done. Leans into the wheat/yeast, but the hops are still there.

Had on draft at the bayou. I love the aroma of this beer. Big tropical hoppy character. Fruity flavor, tropical fruits, grassy, the bready malts are very soft and hidden well by the hop character.

On tap at Uinta. Had a few pints of this while catching up with Mikey
Clear straw yellow with a medium white head and good lacing. Aroma of tropical fruit, wheat and citrus. Flavors of fruit, wheat and orange peel
Nice and refreshing. I’d love to see this in cans/bottles in the future.

Tangerine/grapefruit hop and subtle doughy aroma. Similar fruity flavor--maybe some "tropical" in addition to the citrus--with biscuit, doughy malt that is sweet, finishing drier. Similar to Wyld, with a somewhat different, probably a little stronger malt flavor.

On tap at the Bayou. Pours a deep copper color with a medium white head. A big fruity hop nose, some oranges and pine. The flavor is a bit dominated by green bitter hops, some fruity and biscuit background, a bit of rye meeting hops here producing the bitterness. Earthy at times, pretty sweet overall. A nice brew.
