COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in small batches annually to commemorate Uintas anniversary, this soul-warming brew is now available year-round. (Uintas anniversary is observed and noted by the change of the roman numeral on the label.) Uintas award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content of over 10% ABV. Originating in England in the nineteenth century, barley wines are brewed with the same traditional ingredients as beer: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. There are no grapes or fruit used in the brewing process. The name barley wine refers to its alcohol content being similar to that of most wines, ranging from 8.5% to 14% ABV. Unlike most beers, barley wines age remarkably well. If you have the will power, set an Anniversary Barley Wine aside for a year or more.

Darkmagus82 (2286) - - NOV 10, 2016
Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance The beer pours a hazy copper color with a small fizzy white head. The head fades rather fast leaving just a tract of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is quite sweet and bready with the sweet being of a brown sugar and molasses smell. Along with these aromas comes some other smells of a grape and slightly herbal and grassy smell. Taste The taste begins with quite boozy taste mixed with tons of breadiness and sweet caramel and darker fruit flavors. As the taste advances even more sweetness comes to the tongue along with some lighter dank hop tastes and a rather strong grainy/grassy taste. Toward the end the booze ramps it up even more leaving one with a very sweet and bready hot taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the brew is very thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is quite low. For the rich and thick, heavy sweet, and boozy tastes the feel is rather nice and helps keep it a slow sipper. Overall- Ah A bit too boozy and sweet for my liking of a barley. Not bad, but not great either in my opinion.

Amber/pink, clear, pink foam. Pronounced alcoholic and bready nose. Full body, smooth texture, foamy, intense flavor, hot mouthfeel, lingering aftertaste. Assertively bittersweet. Herbal, hoppier than most other barley wines, malty, fruity, pears. Characterful, assertive. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amber color. Caramel malt, brown sugar, fruity hops, citrus pine. Unbalanced taste profile of sweet malt on the one hand, and bitter hops on the other. Bitter finish with too much alcohol.

Bottle pour into tulip glass from One Stop Market. Aroma is strong bready and caramel malts with floral and fruity hints. Mildly astringent. Appearance is hazy dark reddish-orange with discernible floating sediment, minimal sparkle, finger-width fluffy beige head with fair retention and nice lacing. Taste is much like aroma with front half sweet malt and second half yielding to more nuanced fruit notes and some citrus. Palate is medium bodied with thick, sticky texture, esophageal warmth and sweet, long finish. Overall, avoids being overly sweet and has a bit of hop complexity.
