14th anniversary 12oz. from Jimbowood, shared with my gf cyn. Pours cloudy amber with a tan ring. Nose is seet, with dark malts and some fruity citrus notes. Taste is sweet malty, with some light caramel and a touch of caramel. This is a tasty barleywine. MrBendo (1064) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - SEP 15, 2008
2008 Bottle. Cloudy dark ruby with a small head. Aroma of sweet toffee, caramel and over-ripe cherry notes. Fairly sweet with a little balancing hop bitterness. Medium to heavy body. Bitter finish. PilsnerPeter (3045) - Flushing, New York, USA - SEP 15, 2008
Tap at Barcade 2008 Version: Pours a deep brown with a ruby hue with a thin ring of head. Sweet aroma with detectable alcohol, candy malts and some tropical fruit notes come through as well. Slick texture, warming feel. Fairly sweet flavor upfront with candied peach and berries along with subtle toffee. Then it leads into an abrupt bittering hop character to balance. Not altogether cohesive, but decent. ajm (1072) - Los Angeles, California, USA - SEP 14, 2008
Bottle from State Liquor Store, Ogden, UT. A style-bullseye but not too exciting. Aroma of sour apples, sweet vinegar, hop city, and clear water. Flavor is quite hoppy (I don’t think the balance is that good in a two month old bottle). Two bottles are left of the 6er I bought, so they are going to chill for a year or two. travita (4993) - Dallas, Texas, USA - SEP 1, 2008
Dark red in color with a smallish tan colored head. Clear look. Smell is malts, hops, and some sugary sweetness. Taste is malts, hops, caramel, and a little molasses. Hidden alcohol.

15th Anniversary batch. Poured an amber cola color with a lot more carbonation than I was expecting. Aroma was biscuits and malt with a fair dose of hops thrown in. The flavor was much more hoppy than I was expecting. The bittering hops almost threatened to overwhelm the rest of the beer.
This may have been one to cellar to let the flavors play nicely in the bottle a little longer. Gabe511 (9) - Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA - AUG 27, 2008 does not count
This was a 12oz sample bottle i got from work. I’m a big fan of this style and this one was pretty good. The nose is of hops, dried fruits and candied sugars. A nice taste of the same with copper malts. The alcohol is well hidden too. Nothing beats an aged Old Horizontal but this one is enjoyable. kevin62 (267) - New Jersey, USA - AUG 26, 2008
This 12 oz botlle(15th anniversary) was dated 7-21-08,so it is pretty fresh, maybe I should have waited longer on this, but it was a free sample.Any way it poured a dark amber color with a large tan head.Aromas were of heavy hops, pine, molassas. The taste was more on the hopppy side with light molassas and fruit.Ok. In short: Pleasant sugary malt backbone but lacking hops. Just an Ok sweet beer.cameljameson (1) - , Utah, USA - AUG 25, 2008 does not count
How: Bottle 12oz (XIV anniversary version), consumed when about 6 months old
The look: Clead dark-amber body topped by a very small head
In long: Sugary maltiness abound with brown sugar, sugar pie and others. Despite the its very sweet character the beer is not sticky or syrupy, just very sugary sweet. Fruity flavours limited to some berries. Gets more caramelized as it warms up. I can enjoy that type of maltiness if you throw in a top of hops with a strong bitterness. Not the case here, the little hops there was had as much bite as my granny, the poor woman needs to pass her Big-Macs through a blender.
great color not much head, nice clean hopsy smell, malty strog but not over powering great for utah beer lol
