Dark toffee with a thin fleeting layer of foam. Smells like rich toffee, caramel, chocolate, raisins, sweet cherries, and some piney hops; pretty complex. Pungent flavors of booze, dark chocolate, slight roast, and slight anise with a strong hop bitterness to balance any sweetness; it’s surprisingly un-sweet, no cloying. Finishes slick and bitter; full bodied with low carbonation.
Bottled 3/7/12, I’m surprised to see how well the bitterness has stood up for the last several months. A really great take on a barleywine.

12oz bottle. Pours a lightly hazed garnet with a tan head. On the nose, resinous hops, dark dried fruits, faint molasses, and a very light note of cocoa. Taste wise, sweet and full bodied with a load of resinous hops, lots of sticky dried fruit notes, and light hints of dark coffee that head into toffee, a big whack of resinous hops, faint earthy notes with some molasses, and some mineral bitterness in the long malty resinous finish. In the world of barley wines, this isn’t terribly complex, but it’s SO goddamn tasty, so right now, who cares about complexity! minihame2 (654) - Oulu, FINLAND - MAR 17, 2017
