COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in small batches annually to commemorate Uinta’s anniversary, this soul-warming brew is now available year-round. (Uinta’s anniversary is observed and noted by the change of the roman numeral on the label.) Uinta’s award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content of over 10% ABV. Originating in England in the nineteenth century, barley wines are brewed with the same traditional ingredients as beer: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. There are no grapes or fruit used in the brewing process. The name “barley wine” refers to its alcohol content being similar to that of most wines, ranging from 8.5% to 14% ABV. Unlike most beers, barley wines age remarkably well. If you have the will power, set an Anniversary Barley Wine aside for a year or more.

Citrus hoppy aroma, reddish brown liquid with minimal head, medium bitterness and sourness, medium body and soft carbonation, with a bitter finish. This is excellent, reminded me of an IPA with all the hops.

A - Dark brown with some ruby mixed in and a finger of frothy tan-khaki colored head. Fades normal. S - Sweet caramel malts, caramelized and brown sugars, grapefruit, citrus, and some pine hops, a hint of dark fruit, and a bit of booze. T - Sweet caramel malts, grapefruit, tropical, citrus, and pine hops, some good bitterness, brown sugar, caramelized malts, a touch of dark fruit, and some booze. M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a warming, sweet, and lightly bitter finish. D - Nice hoppy barleywine. Great overall balance and smoothness.

Deep reddish brown. Nose full of toasty malts, caramel, dark fruit, raisin, grapefruit hops and mild pine. Flavor is more of the same with toasted malt, raisin, caramel, and bitter grapefruit. No booze to be found. This was outstanding, very surprised by the other ratings.

XIV at GBBF 2008. Deep ruby brwon with a lasting off-white head. SNPA-like juicy citrus hop aroma, with some malt. Dry malty flavour with toffee and caramel, some citrus hop and a hint of alcohol. Very good, but felt like it probably would have been even better fresher.

From bottle pours dark ruby copper with yellowish head. Generous lacing. Caramel aroma. Taste is sweet with a significant bitterness that lingers.

Flaske: Mørk ravfarvet med et stort skumhoved. Duft af amerikansk barleywine når det er bedst. Masser af humle til at bakke malten op med. Oppe sammen med great divide og avery. Super.

Bottle @tasting. Aroma is huge fresh hops, caramel, liquorice, fruits, raisin/plums, etc etc. Promising. Flavour is liquid bitter and hoppy for a barleywine, with big caramel, liquorice and fruits. Very nice.

A couple months at cellar temp has the expected results with less hop influence, while also allowing the exceptional texture to shine a bit more, +1 on Palate

Fresh review on Feb 28, 2015 : Ruby highlights adorn a mahogany body beneath a slowly fading, rocky faint tan head creating intricate lace all around

Classic American barley wine aromas and flavors, stanky dank, dark and red berries, herbs and citrus balanced over sweet cherry malt notes on the beautifully smooth signature Uinta texture, medium weight offering coffee cake and toffee leading to a piney, complex residual full of the previously mentioned components

12oz bottle best before 05/04/15H served at 50° into Stölzle Swirl Red Wine glass

cloudy, reddish-brown color; sweet malt and floral hop aroma; a very nice, well balanced barleywine; sweet malt is nicely balanced with plenty of hops
