Can. I wouldnt say pitch black, but it is a lovely brown-black with garnet highlights and a tan, lacy head that just will not quit. Nose is pecans, soy, eucalyptus, and black tea. Coffee and beef consomme on the tongue; very rich and satisfying, with a clean finish that seems a little truncated. Good, though.

Poured from a bottle. Nearly black with redish brown edges and a tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and earth. Taste is roasted malt along with coffe and chocolate notes; also, slightly smokey. Taste is somewhat sweet followed by a mild bitterness. The body is light, but the carbonation is crisp and bright. A good option for people that need organic.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. It pours ruby red to dark brown and nearly black. A long lasting off white head. The aroma is very odd and rather unexciting. It has some dark malts yes but there is this melted butter overtone that takes the over the entire nose. I couldnt shake it. The body is medium. The taste makes a bit of a comeback as that nauseating butter is not evident but there is a pleasant dark slightly bitter character.

Nice schwartz bier. Full bodied roasty lager with a smokey finish that lingers for just a moment or two. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Nice and roasty wet malted nose. Flavor is light dark fruits up front and a great polite blast or roasted grains towards the back. Yum!

Can from Lazy Dog Pours a deep dark brown with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of burnt caramel toffee and butter with a hint of chocolate with a touch of ash and sulfur. Flavor is rich caramel and chocolate with hints of butter. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick sweet mouthfeel. Decent brew, but the buttery aspect of it turned me off a bit.

From a bottle. Pours black with a foamy, frothy beige head and lots of lacing. Tastes nutty, like light coffee, light sweetness, grains, very smooth and tasty. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like roasted grains and nuts.

Bottle. Pours dark, cola brown with creamy beige head. Aroma is toasted and chocolate malts, lager yeast, toffee, light raisins, and light earthy notes. Flavor is dry chocolate malts, light earthy hop bitterness, and faint dark fruit esters; dry finish. Light/medium body and medium carbonation.
