This is a smooth and pleasing black lager. Excellently named, the Baba black lager is certified organic to boot! Will definitely buy again.

Appearance: near black, (ruby highlights when held to the light) with two-fingers of creamy light tan head shrinking to a thick collar and leaving generous lace rings. Aroma: dark chocolate, cacao, coffee, pumpernickel, a hint of smoke. Taste: predominantly bitter dark chocolate, a bit of roast coffee beans, slightly burnt toast, mellow, earthy hops. Finish: smooth, clean, with lingering dark malts balancing against earthy hops. Notes: A written description cannot do this beer justice. Simply the best schwarzbier I’ve ever had, better than traditional German versions, better than any American attempt. Beautiful pour, attractive nose, delicious, balanced flavors, creamy-but-refreshingly-drinkable palate, and a sessionable 4% abv. Near perfect. I’m very sad that I only grabbed a single bottle, and will be on the lookout for more.

Excellent. Dark pour effemeral tan head, slightly sour aroma but not taste. Palate is light/lagerish, flavor nice hint of nut+earth. Excellent beer

Pours with a lot of bubbly light brown foam. Color is black. Inviting aroma has hot chocolate, cappuccino, lemon candy, licorice. Palate is light and fairly balanced with airy carbonation. Taste has sour fruity notes, sour beer -like notes, a hint of pink grapefruit, lemon soda, some bitterness from hops. Very refreshing. A surprising lager that doesn’t taste like lagers I’ve had before. It’s more like an IPA mixed with brown ale mixed with sour/fruit beer. Definite "will buy again". harrymel (1551) - Spokane, Washington, USA - NOV 18, 2013

Black with a nice light tan quilt. Smells malty, some coffee, some soil, some leather - all components come together nicely. I like the nose. Robust flavor with leather, cocoa, dark chocolates, coffee (espresso tradiitional), a slight earthy character. well fucking done. Medium on full bodied with moderate, but prickly carb. This is a sincerely well done beer. Absolute delight for the style. Really recommend this.

Very good. Appearance is a thick light tan, long lasting head with lots of lace and an almost opaque, but clear black brown color. Aroma is roast up front then dark leather, meat, coffee, malt. cocoa. Flavor’s like nose, dryish at first, then with the other qualities including tang, there’s a bit of sweet in the finish. Body is good, tho perhaps a bit thin. Very quaff-able. I’d like to have another right away. bpreo (2943) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - APR 16, 2012
Sometimes I buy a 6-pack of individual bottles I have never had before, and I sort them in order of darkness. I start with Lagers, and end with Stouts. This beer is quite the delicious exception. TheCrowsNest (90) - Redondo Beach, California, USA - DEC 5, 2012
Black with a tan head. Aromas of iced coffee, chocolate, and crisp, clean lager yeast. Lots of roasted barley flavors with coffee and a hint of smoke. Medium-bodied with a clean finish.
The dark flavors don’t compromise the crisp characters of a schwarzbier. Really well done.
