750 ml bottle
Thanks to a previous Santa for this bottle which I shared with tastybeer over the holidays. It was not a great beer but serves as a reference for how not to make a sour. On the other hand if you are looking for an alcoholic alternative to Cherry 7UP this is your ticket.
Aroma / Appearance - The rosy red base absorbs most ambient light. Cherry cough drops are dry and sweet yet not pleasing at all. This looks appealing but smells like fool’s gold.
Flavor / Palate - Tasting much like it smells this is more Cherry 7UP than fruity sour. Lacking even the faintest hint of tartness it tickles the palate before fading quickly. If you’ve got to tick more sours give it a try. Otherwise look for anything better.
Reddish pink pour with some brown highlights. Aroma of cherry, vinegar, and wheat. Slightly tart cherry flavor with wheat, and some wood. Tasted a bit watered down or lacking depth. tcon25 (821) - Duvall, Washington, USA - JUN 8, 2015
On draft at bambinos Seattle, Been a long time sense I was here, on my way to the airport thought I’d stop by. Copper pour, soured fruit aroma, tart taste almost to much. Orange and peach sour flavor. TaktikMTL (7739) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 1, 2015
Bottle. Pours ruby amber with a small white head. Aroma of cherries, yeast and wood. Flavor of sour cherries, yeast, oak and was lightly acidic. MartinT (9852) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 29, 2015
My Bottom Line:
Stuu666 (13124) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 10, 2015
This bubbly fruit beer develops tart cherries which plummet into a watery finish, touched by wheat.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the cloudy pinkish red.
-A dusty moment takes away from the brightness of the cherries.
-Mouthfeel is relatively dry.
-For a tart and fruity brew, this creation lacks flavor clarity and acidity.
Bottle at Craig’s. Pours copper amber, nose is sour cherry, sugary, taste is similar, a little fizzy. NikkTwist (3202) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 13, 2014
Bottle (03/20/12) at Eulogy. Cloudy orange-red pour with some slight foam on top. Has the strong taste of sour cherries. Feels quite a bit musty (not necessarily a bad thing) as if dust and cobwebs are included. Mandarin orange slices. Thankfully much more sour than sweet. Not overly complex but feels refreshingly honest and unfiltered. slowrunner77 (11938) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 22, 2014
2012: pretty sad example of a sour. lightly tart, and would make an OK fruit beer, but there’s little of the classic acidity or oak, or layers. not bad, but quite boring. Dogbrick (12939) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 5, 2014
This beer pours a clear reddish-brown color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherry, butterscotch and spice. Light to medium body with flavors of tart cherries, earthy yeast and malt. The finish is moderately sour with a cherry and berry aftertaste. Decent overall. gnomungus (89) - - JUN 30, 2014
Veeeery sour. Like, so sour it occludes the actual cherry flavor. A bit of a disappointment.
