At Hopishop 2016. Aroma of raisin, caramel and malt. Taste has mild pine, bitter grassy hop, carame and some malt. Solid US barley wine. The bourbon is almost completely absent though. vincentvega72 (847) - Terneuzen, NETHERLANDS - OCT 9, 2016
UPDATED: OCT 9, 2016 Mooi amberkleurig bier met fijne witte schuimkraag. Lekkere, licht zoetige, barley wine. Aardbei, confituur, mout, caramel. Hele lekkere hoppige afdronk. Subliem. 77ships (10773) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - OCT 9, 2016
750 ml. bottle sampled @ HopisHop B.U.M.B. 2016. Dark amber, tanned head. Nose is warming oxidized malt syrup, low iron, sugar, herbal sweet sticky malts, not very bourbon forward. Taste is lightly bitter herbal, you get more sweetness as it warms up, sugar, herbal, pleasant toffee & caramel with low herbal malt bitterness, nice, sugar, little bourbon actually but it is a nice malty treat as it is so it doesn’t matter. Thick malt, herbal sugar body. Nekronos (4174) - Xalapa, MEXICO - SEP 28, 2016
Quite good and extremely malty. Sweet too and alcohoclic. Easy to drink and enjoy. Storn taste and great aroma. Sdaniel90 (1096) - Mexico City, MEXICO - SEP 22, 2016
Bottle, 75cl. Deep reddish with a creamy tan head. Musky aromas of dried fruits, caramel, brown sugar, alcohol, light barnyard yeast. Full bodied, moderate carbonation. Texture is oily. Medium sweet, medium to heavy bitter. Rich roasted and dried fruit flavors into a complex, harsh fruity and bourbon finish.

Bottle, 750ml. A dark reddish beer with a small white head. Aroma is of drid fruits, firewood, red apples and alcohol. Taste is moderately bitter and medium sweet with faint carbonation. Medium bodied, oily and with a nice aftertaste of dried fruits. Somewhat heavy finish of alcohol. Angelmonster (200) - Colorado, USA - AUG 5, 2016
This is review of 12/2013 vintage
Pours a dark mahogany body, head is 1/4th of an inch and tan. Head retention and lacing are pretty good for an 11 percent barleywine.
Smell is of tons of roasted malts, biscuit, spent grain, and slight oak. Alcohol, especially bourbon, isnt really detected. Hops arent there either, this is a malt bomb.
Taste is of rich toffee, caramel malt, slightly burnt biscuits, and charred oak. Alcohol is well hidden but I also dont get a ton of bourbon unfortunately.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, rich, and nicely carbonated. Head stayed present for a good while, which is impressive for such a big beer.
Overall this was a solid barelywine, but i think I prefer their anniversary barleywine more. Maybe being cellared for 2 and a half years diminished some of the nuanced flavors that I was expecting from this beer. Not to mention I missed the bourbon completely. Still a solid beer, will have to try one fresher. Aurelius (5494) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - AUG 1, 2016
Sweet, tea-like aroma. Tannic, cherries, leafy, vaporous alcohol. Clear, polished bronze. Lively fruitiness, boozy, woody notes, candied tones without being too sweet. Body is not too dense. A bit too raw and unbalanced. On tap, Brass Tap Midtown Tallahassee. Banksiz (139) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUL 23, 2016
UPDATED: JUL 7, 2017 Wonderful warming nose, molasses, hints of cherry, raisins, and licorice. Nice balance of alcoholic warmth, sweetness and bitterness. Medium body, oily and slick, but without any cloying sweetness. Pleasant bitter finish. A wonderful sippable barley wine AWISLguy (3283) - Wisconsin, USA - JUN 1, 2016
750ml corked and caged bottle from Bottle and Cans in Chicago, with a bottle date of 10/11/13. Shared with bananabi11. At cellar temperature. Reddish brown pour. Beige head. Aroma has fruits, nuts, caramel, light wood raisin . Berry/caramel heavy. Taste is of sweet caramel, berries, other fruits, some wood alcohol. Licorice. Raisin. Maybe some barrel. Medium to full bodied. Lowly carbonated, the blend is solid. Definite alcohol. Finishes tangy sweet. Not sure if the aging was a positive or not. Solid taste but not great. 14.4
