Draft @ Oakquinox 2013. Black in color with a khaki head. Nose of roasted malt, dark fruits, licorice, and ash. Decent chocolate, coffee, and molasses notes. Don’t get much bourbon/barrel character. The flavor is a touch acidic. Moderate malt sweetness of caramel and molasses. Licorice, dark fruit, minimal bourbon, and some ash. Decent coffee and dark chocolate notes, too. bhensonb (15747) - Woodland, California, USA - JAN 15, 2013
750 c&c from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Cork print is "Earth, Wind and Beer". Pours a nice dark brown with a 4 finger creamy darkish tan head. Aroma of very smooth dark malt with very subtle, but strong, darkish fruit. I keep thinking bourbon, then I read the description. So. Bourbon. Full bodied. Flavor is very bourbon/vanilla with lots of dark fruit and something that makes me think of the old, dry gingerbread crackers. Meanwhile the head is collapsing into degenerate, random lacing. It’s not exactly dry, but the various flavors tend to hide the malty sweetness. OMFG. JTDC. My head is expanding exponentially.
