FROTHINGSLOSH (7489) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 11, 2014
From the July 2014 3R6P gathering. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a huge foamy dark tan head that lingered forever and left decent lacing. The aroma was cola, anise, vanilla, cocoa and red wine. The flavor was toasty malts, vanilla, wood, cocoa, anise, red wine and heather. Medium finish. Moderately full bodied and creamy. Solid.

Big brown head. Opaque black body goes deep dark red at edge. Deep chocolatey earthy aroma with roasty toffee notes. Sweetish faintly acidic taste of earthy chocolate with funky pine needle notes. Mid-to-full body. Mild, slightly flat, mealy mouthfeel. Sweetish earthy mineraly dark chocolate aftertaste with burnt cocos notes. Nice, drinkable, and full of flavour. Complex. (0.75l bottle from wine monopoly Vika, Oslo.)

75cl bottle: pours a mostly opaque black with dark ruby mahogany edges and a large creamy beige froth of head that leaves fine lacing behind as it subsides. Has a sweet dark caramel and molasses nose with hints of smoke and chocolate. Starts with good fullness and fine carbonation with sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts, notes of plums and a subtle roastiness and mild noble hop bitterness before a drier smooth semi-sweet finish. Very true to style, complex and certainly drinkable.

Draft @ The Ale House in Amesbury. Pitch black with lasting tan head that laced the tulip until finish. Aroma is chocolate, oak and light coffee. Taste is chocolate, vanilla and mild espresso notes. The oak is very light and subtle in this brew. Hints of molasses and sugar. Some burnt malts. Body is more on the full side with a drier smooth semi-sweet finish. Its really good. Just falls short of being great. Well worth a try if you ask me. I would order this again in certain circumstances.
