Ale brewed with Hemp seed.

Introducing the newest addition to Uinta Brewing Company’s lineup, Dubhe (pronounced Doo-bee), an Imperial Black IPA.

Dubhe was named after Utah’s Centennial Star, a star classified as a Red Giant. Dubhe, the star, appears orange in color, and is found at the top end of the big dipper’s spoon. The name “Dubhe” continues Uinta’s tradition of celebrating the great state of Utah, however, “Dubhe” is a fitting name for more than that reason: this beer is as black as the night sky and is brewed with an astronomical amount of hops.

Dubhe is comprised of five hop varieties, a hop profile bold enough to shine through the roasted, dark malt character of this beer. A citrusy hop aroma, achieved by dry hopping with a proprietary blend of extreme Northwest hops, balanced with notes of mild dark chocolate and a hint of sweet licorice. Smooth from start to finish, Dubhe’s layered flavor profile emerges with rich and rounded toasted malt flavors, and is followed by a lively hop bitterness. At over 5 pounds of hops per barrel, Dubhe is the most hop-laden beer Uinta has ever produced. This shinning new addition is brewed with hemp seed (A play on the name, perhaps?), and has a far-out ABV of 9.2%.

My personal favorite so far, truly everything you could ask for in a beer. Extreme yet perfectly balanced complexity. Pours deep dark brown, almost but not quite black. Minimal creamy tan head. Aroma is pine and coffee. Starts bitter, piney hops. Finishes dry and malty, a little chocolate but mostly coffee, and just the right alcohol bite. Outstanding combination, outstanding beer!!! Probably the best thing about living in Salt Lake City is I can buy these for $2.15 a bottle at the liquor store any day of the week, except Sunday (after all it is Utah, ya know??). To the rest of the beer drinking world, if you get a chance, try it. You won’t be disappointed.

On draft. One fantastic Black IPA -- there is an absolute smorgasbord of flavor going on here, with lots of roasted dark malts and a bucket-load of hops. It’s chocolatey and roasted; it’s piney and bitter; it’s a fantastically executed Black IPA.

Pours black with a one finger tan head with nice lacing. Aroma is of pine, citrus, roasted malts, coffee, tropical fruits, and some herbal hop notes. Taste is similar to the aroma. Has a medium-full body with a creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, moderately bitter, long, lingering finish. Overall, an outstanding black IPA that is very drinkable for over 9 % abv.

Solid body. Good flavor. Nice hop profile. Solid beer. The high ABV is hidden well.

A really nice black IPA. A dark pour, good aroma of malts a hops. Body is balanced and the alcohol is masked exceptionally well. Must more potent than it tastes.
