Strong viscous mouth feel, moderate hoppy taste and a hint of citrus. Smoother than others in its class, finishes well. Head is not great, hops could be more pronounced.

hey good beer from Utah who knew? had a six pack of cans, most of which drank right from the can but poured enough out to see orange amber color and bright white head. Aroma is citrus zest, perticularly grapefruit with just some malt sweet and honey. Taste is stronger bitter than i like but it just works. makes my mouth feel like i had botton balls in it. Still eays to drink and refreshing for an over 7%abv.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2014 This beer has a great hoppy citrus aroma with a nice head on it. The flavor was well balanced & i would definitely recommend this one.

A clean dry start and grapefruit finish. Great summer IPA. I'd order this again. Enjoyed in bottle but probably better on tap. ---all in good suds.

12oz can from Spirits Brick. Poured a great looking deep clear syrupy orange body with an average to slightly larger dense foamy mostly white head. Aroma of citrus rind, grapefruit, slightly sweet amber malts, touch of dirty oranges, honey combs. Medium body with stronger carbonation and a slight harshness on the end that is a combo of hop bitterness and carbonation. Flavor is not as good as the aroma but close enough. Flavor of older rotting citrus fruits, wet toast, dry grapefruit rinds, cereal grain husks. Good stuff here.

Clear deep golden color with thick creamy white head. Aroma is bright pine and citrus hops. Taste is crisp dank piney resin upfront with some grapefruit bitter citrus on the follow through with a touch of malty sweetness for balance. Aftertaste is lingering bitterness of resinous pine and citrus. Palate is somewhat sticky and resinous. Overall a nice balanced and refreshing IPA.

Pours a clear dark amber with a massive white head. Aroma of pine. Absolutely delicious. Hoppy bitterness but lots of sweet malt also. A little high in alcohol, but one of the best beers Ive had in a while.

I poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. It had a best before date of 9/28/13 and cost $2.50 ($0.21 per ounce).

Appearance: Dark orange color, fairly clear but with a slight haze. Forms a large, white, frothy head which laces and retains very well.

Smell: Slightly dank, resiny character with minor "cat pee" scent and citrus juice concentrate.

Taste: I like it when breweries make beers that dont conform to their regional sub-styles. Uinta is out of Utah, but Hop Notch IPA drinks like a strong East Coast-style IPA with its resin and pine character. While there is some citrus component to it, its not the star of the show as would be the case in, say, a San Diego-style IPA. Its extremely bitter throughout, but balanced enough to keep the hops from becoming cloying.

Whats funny about this beer is that while it smells dank and sticky, the actual bitterness itself is rather dry. Its almost equally strong from the beginning to the end of the swig, though there is a noticeable peak at the apex. Through the middle of the tongue theres a constant liquid pine flavor, though I wouldnt consider it "Earthy" per se, and certainly not spicy. Theres some malty sweetness as well, giving the beer a dense palette rather than anything crisp or juicy. I do get mild orange flavor on the finish, which changes things up and keeps it consistently interesting. While the hops do linger a bit, they dont fatigue me, nor is there any syrupy sensation. Satisfying and enjoyable throughout.

Drinkability: Hop Notch IPA falls into that tiny void where its neither crisp nor sticky. The mouthfeel is soft, but not creamy. The beer is intense across the tongue, but finishes fairly clean. Its easy to sip or gulp. At 7.3% ABV its a pretty weighty brew, and it certainly takes advantage of its size, yet one serving is not overwhelming. Probably best enjoyed one bottle at a time, though.
