This is a full on assault on your palet. Very rosted, malty, great chocolate tones. This is not a wussy porter. This stuff rocks! And don't give me any of this 'it's good for a utah beer' crap. This be man's beer! Gusler (2653) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - SEP 6, 2000
Another top ten porter in my beer book, robust, malts and hops right to the front. Roasty and toasty and maybe a little smokey. Yum. ultralite3399 (18) - USA - MAR 19, 2002
ahhh the old home town hero, i packed 2 bottols of this black stugg 25 miles just so i could drink it on top of it's namesake. a chocolate taste is there and very smooth flavor. this is a personal favorate.

It pours a nice mahogany color and has a full-bodied malted, slight chocolate, and dry roasted flavor
Topped with a tan creamy head. It’s fairly hoppy for a porter.
This is one of my favorite porters. opiate (199) - Sandy, Utah, USA - NOV 16, 2000
This is a porter to end all porters.
(It recently won gold at the GABF for the schwartzbier category.)
Very smokey and roasty. A good clean flavor. Nice deep red color. And a terrific head.
Just a perfect porter in my opinion.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2015 If it wasn’t for those darned Mormon’s, this beer would likely have a much higher alcohol content, and would get a much greater rating from me.
Re-Rating: Once again, weird that a Porter is only 4% alcohol. Anyways, the rating may have changed a bit over the last 4 years. Sampled at the 4th annual McKenzie Cider and Craft Beer Festival, November 13th, 2015. EdInSaltLake (727) - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - SEP 13, 2012
Roasty malt aroma and flavor; kind of chocolate-y, and sort of a "burnt" character (I mean that in a good way). Well balanced with some caramel and sweet flavors. Moderate bitterness. A little astringent, maybe? Maybe my favorite American Porter. mnurda (1285) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - JAN 24, 2013
On tap at the public house. Crazy coffee taste. Beautiful beer. Loved this one

People who like their porters BOLD will not care for this one. However, it could be a candidate for a popular porter. Very mild in taste for this style of beer but quite enjoyable. Pours nice and has fine aroma. I look forward to the next one.
