Keg @ Vintage. Deep brown pour with a small head. Nose has some mellow smoke. Toasted brown bread. A touch of cocoa. Pillowy, creamy, yet dry. Dark cocoa. Some peppered tobacco. Medium / full body. Bright carb. Nice. deyholla (12021) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAY 7, 2017
Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy brown with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has an earthy smoke with bitter dark grains and roasted malts supporting. Flavor is quite smokey with roasted malts and dark grains underlying. rubbishystuff (2537) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 3, 2017
From Brewpub. I’m going to give this a little bump up due to I felt they got the smoke levels just perfect. Serving: Tap Brigadier (3725) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - MAY 28, 2015

A solid baltic porter falls in line with almost every other Vintage draft. There may be some better ones out there but for a style that I have not revisited in a very long time it more than gets the job done. As long as they keep cranking out beers of this caliber I will stop in on every trip through Madison.
Aroma / Appearance - A fluid black base swirls around the core of the glass. Soft beige head floats above live decorative icing. Ash and smoke dominate a malty profile that retains a velvety sweet heart.
Flavor / Palate - Malty sweetness opens with a bang. Smoky blackberries transition to a finish of coffee and malt. Dried raspberries dipped in chocolate also appear from time to time. Eventually it does develop a little heaviness but that is not too unusual for the style. A mixture of old and new, it ties together two continents with a top notch experience just shy of world class.
Draft. Dark brown pour. Really nice smoked malt character fairly dry nice stuff. nuplastikk (6414) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 7, 2014
Tap at Vintage. Brown-copper-amber body. Unfiltered, lighter than a typical Baltic Porter. Sweet brown malt notes. Leans into the lager tones, which is nice. The smoke is well balanced, well incorporated. I’d be happy to call this a Rauchbier, as they went really light on chocolate malts. Big smoky lager. Nice. esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 20, 2013
On tap at Vintage Brewery. Dark brown with a thin tan cap. Aroma of smoke malts, smoked fish and light chocolate. Taste of smoked meats, dark roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruits and a nutty, sweet and smoked finish. madvike (3286) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 21, 2013
On tap at the brewpub - Pours dark black with a thin light tan head. Nose is a bit sweet and smoky with a little molasses and some dark ashy malt that peeks through a bit. Taste is ashy, a bit smoky, with medium dark roast, some milkiness, and a dry, roasty finish. Smooth and full-bodied. cbfobes (2885) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - SEP 8, 2013
On tap at Vintage 9/8/13, pours a very dark brown, nearly black with a light tan head, the aroma was of more sweetness with chocolate and a hint of coffee with just a little bit of smoke coming through, nothing over powering, the flavor has a chocolate front end with a subtle amount of smoke in the finish, really well done, the smoke doesn’t take away from the rest of the beer and overpower it by any means, a bit big at 7.6% but really tasty.
