Umenishiki Pilsner is a fragrant beer filled with luxuriously added fine aroma hops with excellent fragrance. A certain richness unique to all malts. The bitter taste by fine hops changes from a sharp bitterness to a gentle bitterness eventually and it stimulates the back of the throat pleasantly. Easy to match any dish, please enjoy a little rich flavor.

Bottle. Great hoppy aroma. Well balanced and crisp taste that lasts. Nice malts and almost no noticeable alcohol. Great wee tipple.

330ml pull-tab bottle bought at Kijizakura Shoten's booth during HKTDC Food Expo 2017 at HKCEC in Wanchai.

Looks: Clear golden yellow colour; One-quarter finger head and residual soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Fair sticky lacing with very slight carbonation.

Aroma: Slightly pungent full Pils malt, with strong grains, floral, strong spices, wood, very dry biscuits, light lemon and grass.

Taste: Close to medium sweet Pils malt, with grains, strong floral, light sugar, spices, herbs, dry biscuits, strong lemon, strong bitter hops and sharp grass.

Body: Mid to light body. Dry and slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Full Pils maltyness in solid and smooth background. Very dry biscuity right off the bat, then comes strong barley grains and flowery with fair sweetness. Spicy herbal hops with strong bitter lemon to round. Really good!

Hoppiness: Floral, strong spices, wood, light lemon and grass in nose. Strong floral, spices, herbs, strong lemon and sharp grass in taste; Bitterness is standard German Pils-level, strong for a lasting, high astringent bitter sweet malty finish.

After Taste: Bone dry. Herbal spicy and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: Another near-perfect German Pilsener from Japan: Slightly underwhelming aroma aside, its taste is right on bready Pils maltyness, dry as hell with spicy and strong bitter German hoppiness. Well-crafted and highly enjoyable. Pricey but well worth the money!

Tap at a sake place in Shinbashi. Haven’t really seen any Umenishiki beers on tap before. Pours golden with a fluffy white top. Nice fresh grassy hops that are covering beautifully crisp malty base. Quite good bitterness there, surprisingly well-crafted, decent pilsner.

Bottle from Daiei. Nice bready malt and biscuit with a touch of floral clover notes. Grainy with nice malt body and balanced. Light peppery hops on the finish. Really not bad, but not as hoppy as I like my pils. Still a solid beer.

Keyaki. Nice. Floury, light hoppy bite. Easy drinking. Wheat and grain. Nice.

Bottle from Top World Supermarket. Serious Sazzy nose, some honey and light fruitiness. Near-clear golden, little head. Modearte grassiness, sweetish malt, grain, small hits of bittering in finish. Medium body. Not as soft as the really good pils are, but it’s pretty good.

Bottle. Fantastic aromas of hops, some malt and hay. Quite smooth palate, finishes clean. Pretty well balanced, alcohol hardly noticeable. Should have has it a little colder, but still really delicious. Damn fine drop.

Bottled 10 days ago. More a premium lager, albeit with high quality than most. Lots of honey, biscuit malts with a very soft noble hop finish. Very straight forward. I like hoppier styles in this category, but I can see it is well made. Also same price (500 yen) as their aromatic and bock beers - this pricing policy always confuses me. I’ll stick with those aforementioned beers.

Malt and hop smell. Light gold colour. Enjoyable taste. Bitter citrus and dry. Some honey. Some bitter aftertaste. Very enjoyable. High quality

Short 12 oz. bottle with an interesting ringed cap. Poured to my favorite 1/2 pint taster with a hazed, light gold color, bubbly, white head foam that also displayed a little creaminess, and curtainy rings of lacing. The aroma was some light grain and pils malt, hints of tart apple, with a touch of spice. The flavor added some strong hop bitterness & dryness that favorably grew on me as I continued imbibing. With a body that was medium to light and carbonation that was effervescent, this Pils was nicely crisp, clean, and refreshing.
