COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late in the 18th century Britains great brewing families were working hard to break into new markets. For the Baltic Sea ports they created an export version of the traditional British Porter. Styled like an IPA to preserve them for the voyage, those profound Baltic Porters served to ward off the chill winds of that northern sea. That said, we werent satisfied with the Baltic Porters traditionally subtle hint of black licorice. This ale features a blend of whole licorice root and star anise to create an uncommon addition to that traditional export Porters hearty character.

Draft at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured almost black with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is sweet roasty malt, light molasses. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich, almost creamy, smoky malt, light liquorice palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Plenty going on and very refreshing even in the Asian heat.

Can from Beers of Europe. Pours dark brown/black with a single finger tan coloured head. Aroma of smokiness, dark fruits, sweetness, caramel, toffee...Taste of initial smokiness, real good smokiness, chocolate then dark fruits, plums, raisins, cherries, caramel, toffee, liquorice...the liquorice is a bit sickly for me, doesnt mix too well with the creaminess for me...nice nonetheless though!
