I find it interesting that this beer isn’t at 99%. It’s quite delightful and a perfect example of a well done yet unique dubbel. Belgian style dubbels are a hard category to compete in, with fine Trappist ales as the standard, but this brew holds its own for true dubbel connoisseurs.
It’s nicely sweet with floral overtones and a crisp, dry, noble hop finish. Tastes of caramel, raisin, rose and a hint of biscuit. The pour is also nothing to complain about, with a delicate head and deep red hue which is distinctly impenetrable. Something you look for in a good dubbel. The palate is light yet full with a light buttery texture.

Cold can. Pours a dirty dark red / brown, slightly sparkling, small white head doesn’t last. Aroma of sour caramel, cherry cola, clay. Body is medium, slightly foamy, lowish carbonation. Can. Hazy dark orange. Aroma is sweetly herbal on a barley candy base. Caramel malts support notes of ginger, perfumey citrus (not truly kaffir though), and breakfast tea. No hint of the ABV, but a bit too sweet to be sessionable, at least for me anyway.

Aroma of smoked malts, amber malts, herbs, molasses, citrus and I can smell subtle lime. Amber appearance with decent lace. Nicely blended flavors amber malts, slight metallic tank notes, hop resin, subtle lime notes, cinnamon and herbs. Overall, this is a nice beer with herb and molasses overtones and subtle lime. Bottle share at DLD 2013. Pour is deep amber with a quickly disappearing head. Aroma is very much belgian with notes of key lime pie, raspberry, banana, golden raisins, and coriander. Can from the LCBO via jerc - thanks, Jer! Dark red-copper body with a thin tan head. Aroma is odd - getting more of a barley wine vibe than anything "Belgian-style", with barley candy sweetness, resiny hops, and perhaps a hint of citrus. Flavour starts quite sweet with dark sugary malt, followed by a distinct hit of lime, and a warm, boozy finish that has a bit too much residual sweetness for my taste. Not completely awful, but a bit of a mess, really.
