Bottle: Poured a dark brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of candi sugar, sweet caramelized malt with some sweet cherry juice notes. Taste is also a good mix of candi sugar with some yeast ester, some caramelized malt with some cherry juice. Body is full with good carbonation with no real apparent alcohol notes. Base beer is really interesting but cherry taste ends up being overwhelming and lacks attenuation. CRock (287) - Ontario, CANADA - JAN 22, 2018
Couldn't find the 17 this year but this was a more than adequate replacement. Great beer! AleRider78 (1508) - Winchester, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 20, 2018
Bottle from LCBO. Pours a massive frothy beige head that sticks around for a while before leaving a nice small bubbly coating with lots of sticky, patchy lacing. Has a slightly murky amber, borderline brownish appearance. Aromas of cherries, roasted malt, yeast, very fruity and some earthy, resin notes. Flavours are chocolatey, dark fruits, and the cherries more towards the finish. Smooth and slick mouthfeel. Great retention and somewhat excessive carbonation. For a slightly higher than average abv (for Unibroue of course) at 10.5%, doesn't seem super strong and in your face, very enjoyable and not offensive in the least. Good stuff! Deep brown pour with a thick tan head. The aroma has loads of sweet cherry, dark bitter cocoa and a touch of bitterness. There a sort of rummy/burnt sugar quality to the beer along with a heavy spiciness. The finish is moderately sweet and quite spicy. Treacle and a bit of molasses. Bitter cocoa and lingering cherry. There's a little bit of rum and sweet fruit. Pretty bright and tasty. Alpha10 (864) - Ontario, CANADA - JAN 19, 2018
2018/01/18 - Pours a dark brown colour with a thick, foamy, off white head that slowly reduces and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is typical unibroue yeast, banana, dough, raisin, plum, cherries, light roast and chocolate cake. Taste is tart cherries, raisin, berry jam, yeast, spices, chocolate and vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium and silky with lightly biting carbonation and a long warming, slightly medicinal finish. WARNING - This beer needs to be allowed to warm up before it can really be enjoyed. The first few sips I took tasted like cherry cough syrup. Not good. Only after letting it sit for a while, did the medicinal notes fade that Black Forest notes take over. Overall, I enjoyed this, but I feel like the cough syrup notes had imprinted and it was hard for me to ignore them even after they had mostly faded.

On tap at IBU. Pours a clear light yellow color with a medium white head. A big sweet phenolic nose, floral. Sweet eastery notes, dough, floral hops, sweet vanilla, apples. Solid. Metalchopz (3685) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 17, 2018
Hazy copper colour with amber highlights. The head is beige, frothy-foamy with good retention and some soapy lace. Flavours of real cherries over roasted malts, chocolate malts and decent hops. Wow, you can really smell the Black Forest cake with the mix of cherries and chocolate. Even hints of vanilla. I am a big fan of Unibroue, and I must say - it has been a while since they have surprised me with a brew of this caliber. Will have to cellar a few of these, and hope they do some more of it later. coraiola (1) - BRAZIL - JAN 13, 2018 does not count
UPDATED: JAN 13, 2018 Smells and tastes like burnt cherry candy. Overwhelming artificial taste, nothing resembling Belgian beer in it. Undrinkable, worst beer I've drank in years. Drained it. Brettsky06 (536) - Manitoba, CANADA - JAN 12, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 12, 2018 Dark brown pour, touch of beige head. Dark chocolate aroma. Taste is sweet chocolate with some cherry. Really does taste like Black Forest cake. Very nice AgentAle (1855) - Fort Mcmurray, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 10, 2018
