I believe the brewer said this went through at least four separate fermentations. Brownish red pour with little head. SMell strong spice, red fruit, caramel, bbq smoke, licorice. Taste spicy alcoholic cherry clove lavender, very sweet. Deep and complex, full bodied, pretty amazing and my favorite of the night.

In short: A heavy burgundy Belgian ale with spiciness and sweet cherry juice. Decent sipper
How: From a bottle at Hivernale Des Brasseurs 2012
The look: Clear burgundy body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Nose is sweet cherries, some spiciness, sweet malts. The beer is supposed to use sour cherries but to me the cherry character of the beer was like sweet maraschino cherries. There is also spiciness and caramelized malts. Just like the Jerry Christmas I found the carbonation and mouthfeel to be less lively than a typical Belgian Unibroue. Anyway, that’s all I noted from this beer, not my most thorough rating, on a scale of 0.5 to 5 I give my rating a 2.6.

Sample from bottle at Winter Warmer 2012.
Appearance : Dark brown with small head. Lots of lacing.
Aroma : Sharp cherries with lot of spices. Some anise with light chocolate.
Taste : Cherries and spices. Anise. Finish is quite sweet with brown sugar. Rich finish with lots of spices. A bit chocolate on finish. Light acidity.
Overall : Not bad but not as good as I expected. Too spicy for me but this is part of the Unibroue signature so I can’t really complain. Nice cherries and nice chocolate in the malt profile. Good but forgettable.

Boutip (6533) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 29, 2012
On tap at Winter Warmer: Poured a hazy dark color ale with a medium size foamy head. Aroma of spices and residual sugar with light sweet cherry notes. Taste is also a mix between some spices with quite a sweet malt backbone and light subtle cherry notes. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Taste like the base beer (Jerry) with some light cherries added to the mix. This is OK but I wouldn’t go out of my way to taste this again in the future.

(Rating #4157)

My Bottom Line:
Overt cherries and oranges frolick amidst this frothy Belgian-style Strong Ale, as tart lengths and surprisingly potent hop bitterness seal each sip.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the dark pink.
-Herbal hops sprout here and there.
-The spicy nose almost overwhelms the cherry fruitiness. This feels and tastes quite young.
-Cherries and their tartness make this quite drinkable for a 10% brew.
-Carbonation and a lean body whip up a fluffy mouthfeel.

On tap at Hivernale des Brasseurs.

Lubiere (14151) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 1, 2012
A dark brown ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, nice sour cherries over smooth caramel sugar, light chocolate and lactic points. In mouth, a nice spiced sweet candy sugar, with licorice, aniseed, molasses, silky mouthfeel, very nice warming alcohol. Tasted at Montreal Winter Warmer, Feb. 25, 2012.

Quevillon (3172) - Boisbriand, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 28, 2012
Drank at the 2012 Winter Warmer Montreal, on February 25. Reddish burgundy, small head. Aroma of cherry and herbs, dry and sour, slightly spicy. Intense sour cherry flavor, but nothing else, aftertaste dry and boring. This is a Christmas farce!
