It pours dark mahogany with ruby highlights; the head is bone and mousse-like. The aroma has notes of: cardamom, cloves, yeast funk, hay, figs, and alcohol. The taste is dry that finishes light bitter; there are notes of: cloves, figs, a tiny bit of burnt coffee, and lots of alcohol. The palate is full bodied, slick, medium carbonation, and a long finish. Overall, when this is young its very closed - definitely needs a couple of years to perk up.

Unibroue can do it up all right. La Terrible only continues that. A locally obtained 750 ml slice of delight. A wire and cork opening, be sure it is not aimed at anyone after the cage comes off. The good news, I did not lose any product. With a pour I call it inky darkness, you can put any color you want on it. A large, just short of white, finely bubbled head, very nice lacing. The scent is a walk through the orchard. It gives up red plum and maybe fig, red cough drops. The taste, oh my, a yeasty ripe fruit start leading to maltiness, spice and a slight bitterness finishing. The alcohol is looking around the corner at me. Well done.Trois Pistoles may be slightly better. I will gladly take either one.

Bottle. A- Tart cherry, dark fruits, oak. A- Dark mahogany color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Raisins, plums, dark fruits, subtle booze. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- Pretty smooth, granted it had years of age on it and loaded with a variety of dark fruits I cant quite bit a finger on.

750 mL bottle shared by ebone1988 for the stupid book. The pour is a light black with a thick pillowy white head and a pretty soapy lace left behind. The aroma is a little metallic but pretty good overall. There is a Belgian malt and a sweet metallic finish to it. There is a spiciness about it and its just well balanced beyond the metal. The flavor is a little more complex. There is the metallic malts and a nice caramel and dark fruit with the spicy malt and some interesting sweetness on the back end. The mouth feel is light and a little watery with a brighter carbonation and a lingeringly fruity and caramel malts on the back end. Its decent overall, but definitely not my favorite thing.

Taste is dark fruit, woody, raisins, metallic, yeast, dry, slight booze, good. Mouthfeel is medium body, light bubbly carbonation, slightly metallic woody raisin aftertaste. Overall, its pretty good.

Bomber. Pours an opaque coffee color with a dense bubbly and lasting khaki head. Malty aromas of nuts, prunes, cream, oats, and sweet dark bread. Very nice dark cherry, raisin, light chocolate, and clove flavor with a bit of leather. Medium body, medium carbonation. Silky creamy mouthfeel. Somewhat spicy finish. Alcohol is detectible but well hidden. Really, really nice beer. Opposite of the name and all that.

cattaneopapa (374) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 3, 2017
341ml bottle part of a taster pack. Pours an opaque deep brown colour with a small lasting head. Complex aroma with a dark fruit backbone with notes of figs, raisins, prunes, dark cherries, and licorice. Taste matches the aroma with some nutmeg and clove notes. Full-bodied with medium carbonation. It has a nice peppery finish from the booze, the alcohol is there, but its balanced against the flavours. Excellent quad.

tightslice (1158) - Redwood City, California, USA - DEC 5, 2016
Bottle from BevMo! in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is dark sweet fruits (figs, prunes), mild chocolate, mild herbal aperitif, burnt sugar. Taste is figs, black cherries...but not quite leathery dried fruit (somehow both juicy and dry). Very rich dark fruit notes and then mildly herbal / bitter. Mouthfeel is pristine...great balance of fizzy and creamy. This beer is definitely on another level. Supremely classic.

Smell of wood, licorice, maple, dense chocolate fruit, leather, and dark basement. Taste is licorice, maple, chocolate cookie, sweet fruitiness, and balanced well. In the glass it looks awesome, still black with a giant thick head that retains. If this doesnt get a perfect score I dunno what does
