In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Mellow-smooth palate, light aroma and sweet apple-citrus flavor. A fizzy, delicious treat.

Gorgeous ruby read body with sparse hints of yellow, below a full, white-meringue head. Smells starchy. Inhale a little deeper and yeast, clove, sweet fruit, spices, even a little citrus register in the nasal cavity. Creamy feel in mouth, with just the right amount of carbonation. Taste starts bready/doughy then exposes some fruits like apple and some lemon, accompanied by clove spice and cinnamon. Aftertaste is malty, with more yeast and wateriness. Decent beer, almost worth buying just to see its dazzling color.

Very impressive beer. Lots of spices with a hint of cinnamon aroma. This is smooth going down and even though it is 8% it still tastes like beer!

Very good Canadian beer. Very complex flavour that only the experienced beer drinker would probably appreciate. Very Fruity. I've tried this beer as well as "La Fin Du Monde" by Unibroue, and both rank very highly with me.

Found this in the cooler of a french camping site! My first Unibroue (can't find it in little DK) Big lasting head. Malty and very spicy.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2003 Almost no carbonation. Balanced, smooth, and a little unexciting for a Belgian strong. Very pleasant flavor though.

First time I had this beer, they had it at The Commercial Hotel on Whyte Ave (?), which was surprising. I had advised my newly found hoodlum friends we should go back to my new bachelor apt. and drink them although I didn't have any furniture or electricity. They opted to got to gazebo park and drink them there. Unfortunatley, the cops didn't like this idea, and proceeded to pour out all but the half bottle I consumed *it came in 6 packs back then* Oh the humanity ....oh yeah...kick ass beer

Nice frothy white and lasting head with a rich amber brown color. Particles float in this opaque brew like spices in a pumpkin bread. Speaking of spice, this one is loaded with spiciness. The aroma is mildly spicy with mostly yeast and malt. Flavor is initially malt, then spice and a yeasty mouthfeel finish that is full of carbonation. Finish is lasting sweet with hints of nutmeg and very faint hops. As it warms up the alcohol comes to the front followed with more cinnamon and brown sugar taste. This is very good, but I don't have alot of experience with the style. It just makes me want more.

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2003 From the 750ml bottle (which seemed a little more stable) Amber/Copper color. Herbal nose of yeasts. It simply tastes good: cloves, pepper, yeasts, hops, malt, fruits and what not. I couldn't find any component taking the top in this delicious rumble that develops a small, but pleasant bitterness as it, not without regrets, leave your throat.

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2003 Aroma comes off strong and fruity but with a slight alcohol tinge. (Major turn-off for me). Flavor is kinda fruity, but flat. This is a down-grade from my previous experience with this brew.
