COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Aroma of grains and yeast, not a sign of hops there. Oily with a moderate carbonation, it ends up feeling creamy. Taste is moderately sweet with again not much hops showing up. I remember it being a whole lot tastier... it must be because I tasted a lot of things since then. It is good and warming but not fantastic. The classic Unibroue signature is showcased here and it is just getting old.

Bottle in Seattle. Heavy and thick off-white head, dark rosy amber body, thick haze. Nice Belgian yeast and rosy malt nose. Some ester up front with round fruity malts dominating. Basic but enjoyable dubbel. Some vegetal qualities. Nice.

Pours mahogany in color and mostly translucent with a pillowy one to two finger off-white head with an aroma of sweet Belgian yeast and malt. Tastes of clove, banana and bubblegum. The slight sweetness from the yeast flavors and malt balance very well with the slight bitterness of the clove and alcohol. It's medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Sweet Belgian Yeast!

First time I had it I made notes later and said I like it I need to try it again. I just did. Pretty awesome. Probably my favorite double Had it again in December 2016. Did not really care for it so much. Knocked it down from up 4.3 to a 3.7 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle. Mostly opaque chestnut color. Significant visible carbonation. Off white head that is replenished by carbonation. Aroma is prune, yeast, earth, raisin, and spices. Brew is somewhat spicy, herbal. Flavors are yeast, overripe banana, wet leaves, toffee, and raisins. Medium body that is pretty dry. Some alcohol in a clean finish.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2017 Got this one from the 6 pack around Easter. The alcohol is a bit too overwhelming. Not bad overall. Got another one after baseball today, warming up to this one. Giving it a a 0.5 more.

This is perhaps the best Belgian-style strong dark ale produced in Canada. Amazing taste, you won't be disappointed! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ar: Fig, plum, and Christmas-spiced banana; some peachy sweetness. Ap: Deep amber and cloudy; small off-white head, recedes into a thin cap of foam. T: Bright banana, juicy peach, plums, and treacle; toasty-sweet melanoidins; cloves, black pepper, and cinnamon; medium-low bitterness, a slightly herbal flavor; finish is peach skins, cloves, and apricot. P: Medium body with very high carbonation; finish is dry. O: A very solid beer; great mixture of fruit, malt, and cooked-sugar flavors; nice mouthfeel, very firm and rich without being cloying; delicious!
