COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Evil yeasty aroma, minimal complexity, not getting too much here. Subdued golden brown, with large off-white head, microbubbles. Sweet, but not overpowering. Damned lively mouthfeel (chanpagne) with a soft, sour finish. Spicy. Alcohol is blended perfectly. Another devilishly good beer from Unibroue.

Bottle from Merchants. Aroma is dry, woody, yeast, caramel, floral, dark fruit, good. Appearance is reddish brown, light tan head, unclear. Taste is dry, woody, dark fruit, raisins, yeast, booze, good. Mouthfeel is medium body, medium carbonation, dry raisin wood aftertaste. Overall, pretty solid.

A strong, dependable beer. Nothing elaborate, everything excellent. If it were an invention, it would have no moving parts, no fuss. It would be like a screw; simple, yet brilliant. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very good beer. Has the Belgian multi ale going on. Dark multi Rich yeast. With a little bit of fruit to change it up and give it a little bit of Distinction. Excellent body and finish.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2017 Pours a dark, dark and cloudy amber from the bottle with a head that thoughtfully leaves the tasting almost immediately. Rich aromas of malt and treacle cut with fresh apple. Delicious sweet malt and liquorice combined with Christmas pudding makes this one to actively seek out

Bottle boo for my birthday thanks to my lovely wife. This beer reminds me more of a Doppel Bock lager. Very clean and drinkable with a good alcohol content especially on an empty stomach. Most certainly does not compete with Belgium Trappist style beer but worth drinking if you like this style.

green apple, rather sweet, cloves, high carbonation, ok, but to me average compared to the Belgian belgians

Pours a rich dark brown from a bottle, light tan head. Aroma is a big malty caramel, but also some raw sugar. Flavor is dark candi sugar, but hints of something more spicy or vegetal, maybe tobacco or leather. Pretty good beer.

Someone abandoned this bottle at a share. Pours a hazy, copper color, with a small, bubbly, beige head. Smells of apples, cinnamon, caramel, and black pepper. Sweet, fruity, and a bit spicy. Light to medium body, with a crisp, lively, and clean mouthfeel. This is an interestingly light and fruity beer. Not at all what I expected, but tasty.
