4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Ap - Pours very dark with an uneven, foamy and dissipating creamy head. Little to no lacing.
Ar - Dark fruits are noticeable right away which lead to an interesting earthy aroma. There’s definitely a bit of noticeable alcohol and anise in the nose as well. Also present are bread and yeast. Very complex. You really have to dig for the aroma though it is not overpowering.
T - Immediately, those Belgian yeasty spices are very accessible with flavors of clove and coriander being most easy to recognize. The beer is rich with dark dates and sweet raisins. The finish is long with the spices continuing to give and give.
P - Texture is oily. It collects on the roof of your mouth like deer tallow. Swirling the beer in the glass reveals a real slippery texture as well: zero retention. Medium bodied.
O - A beautiful beer. Different and exciting. Another good offering from Unibroue.
bananas, raisins, figs, rather a sugar bomb (a minus for me) but it's got a hint of tartness and vanilla to add some dimension patdur99 (8) - - OCT 20, 2017 does not count
Une petite double, correcte. Il y a une certaine amertume, mais pas trop agressant. Bon rapport qualité / prix.

Poured from 12oz bottle, uh, whoa there! After a couple of seconds, it shot out of the bottle like crazy but I didn't lose much. ;^)
The colour is a dark brown with, um, a huge head of foam that shrank slowly throughout the session leaving a fine broken layer with lots of lacing.
The smell is partly dark fruit(plum), yeast, and sweet malt that quite pleasant to the nose.
The taste is quite fruity up front, the plum I mentioned, a bit of banana, then there's some clove moving in with some nice yeasty flavour. Nice. The alcohol is noticeable but not objectionable and I get a nice tart smack right at the finish. A very nice sipper to have, for sure.
Bottom line: A nice tasty example of the style that does pack some punch so sip on it at your leisure. ;^)
Thanks go out to Wasatch for providing this! dtetro (4) - Quebec, CANADA - OCT 16, 2017 does not count
Malt et sucre candy au nez. Ronde à souhait, mais délicate, avec une note fruitée. Alcool et sucre se dissipent tranquillement pour laisser une touche de torréfaction.

I've had this beer in the past, yet never took the time to rate it. So, I went to my local beer store and bought a caged and corked bottle, and it tasted not how I remembered it. Why? Likely because it's two years past date, which explains why the bottle was so inexpensive. Therefore, this review is skewed; I will redo this one with a fresh bottle, when I find one. As for what I poured....it was amber-brown in color with no head or lacing. Aroma: brown sugar, cherries. Flavor: the above, with brown bread, dark dried fruits, and wet newspaper (the unpleasant part of the flavor profile -- obviously because of its age and storage...not cellared). Mouthfeel: medium-bodied. nilsas (4584) - Bryne, NORWAY - OCT 2, 2017higgsbison (268) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 21, 2017
UPDATED: NOV 2, 2017 Definitely need to let this one warm up a bit. I am having a hard time describing this one. It is fairly complex and kind of unique. Lightly carbonated. You don't notice the alcohol much even though it is 9%. It is far from my favorite quad but it is pretty good. Second tasting 3-8-16. This time I much enjoyed sipping it cold. Notes of raisin and plum. Spicy notes, pepper? Strong Belgium Yeast notes. Definitely becomes more subtle and complex as it warms. Quite enjoyed it this go-round Had it a couple of times this year and have not really cared for it. I knocked it down from a 4.5 to a 3.5 and removed it from my favorites l
10-31-17 I had it after drinking a brother Thelonius. Quite enjoyed it. Raising it back to a 4. chrisv10 (18516) - DENMARK - AUG 26, 2017

12oz bottle, thx RB. Pours dark brown with reddish edges and a dense, lasting beige head with good lacing. Aromas of dark dried fruit, burnt sugar, sweet malt, molasses, apples and oranges. Dark, sweet stewed fruit flavors, toffee, earth, roasted malt, cocoa, prunes, raisins. Full bodied with high carbonation. Long delicious fruit and roasted malt finish. Well-hidden alcohol.
