Metalchopz (3384) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 24, 2011
Originally rated July 2006. Bought in singles at La Trappe À Fromage in Gatineau, Quebec. This latest Unibroue pours a clear golden-amber colour with a small head, but decent lacing all around. Bubble coming up fast, from 4-5 different spots in the bottom of the glass. Mild herbal aromas with a touch of bread and grain. First sip was a turn-off with some metallic notes. Then it disappeared. Light sweetness from the honey with some grain malt taste. Never thought Sleeman would continue the U series, but this one is not bad. Actually, better than the other two... I find.

Poured a 11.2oz bottle into a tumbler

Appearance: Dark amber color, almost completely transparent. Forms a small, white, sudsy head which evaporates quickly and leaves no lacing.

Smell: Darker larger aroma with slight honey aroma.

Taste: The brewery classifies this as a pilsner, but it’s much more in the tradition of a Vienna style lager. More emphasis on toasted, nutty malts with honey sweetness throughout. Lower bitterness and clean aftertaste make it quite refreshing, actually. Not a very robust palate, and perhaps a touch of tang as the beer warms. Not as grainy as a fizzy yellow beer, but not as robust as a Sam Adams or Brooklyn lager.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied, with a crisp effervescence.

Drinkability: Highly quaffable and refreshing. Not much taste to work with as far as food pairings, so it works as a liquid refreshment. Definitely sessionable at 4.9% ABV.

Overall, an average beer to be sure, but one that would make an ideal gateway beer for fizzy yellow beer drinkers.

DerWeg (1681) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 8, 2011
Goldy light red with small fizzy white cap. Smell is a bit industrial yeast and faint sweetness. Taste is not all bad with grapes, sweet malts... seems to end with a hint of... strawberries. There is some strange hay in the middle, this could be the ’miel’. Overall an easy-drinking beer for the Montreal kids who just want to get buzzed in the park.

SlovakSniper (5561) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 4, 2010

Spab (3842) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 12, 2010
341 ml bottle. Pours a clear orange gold with thin white head. Very mild grains and honey. Taste of bread and some honeyish sweetness. Medium-ish body. Weak.

Smell?Taste?Where is everything that made Unibroue’s beers what they are? Honey? A bit. Hops? Very hard to taste. Not good.

Where is the aroma??? It’s sort of there I guess and does show up after sitting for quite awhile. Sort of fruity, grains, light caramel??, a bit of honey.. man, this is taking a long time. The taste is less than impressive: dull hops, sweet, light spice, light caramel and maybe honey. The initial aroma I got was wet peanut shells. Smooth but almost no carbonation yet not totally flat. Booooooooooooring.

Cirrhosis (1283) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 9, 2009
Very bright light gold with a good bubble ring, looks good for what it is I guess. Malty sweet aroma with slight banana and a bitter that has no sent to it. Sweet bready flavor with a nice hoppy bitterness in the finish. The is a slight chemical flavor what I can’t pin down. Nice clean highly drinkable taste but I would go out of my way to drink another that’s for sure,
