This is a very good beer that is very flavorful but not as heavy and bitter as Guinness or other dark beers tend to be, I would highly recommend it to others. No aftertaste that I noticed. Can’t really speak to aroma cause I can’t smell very well. Still trying to find out where to get it locally in Cincinnati. Would be great draft too. LOL. I am [email protected]
What a great beer. Dark brown in color. Tan head. Nut and malt tones in the smell. Coffee, malt with a light chocolate flavor. Finish is a light hop and malt. Love this beer. jebert (500) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 31, 2009
Pours a deep dark almost black mahogany with a thick brown head. Nose is malt, chocolate and molasses. Very creamy mouthfeel. Taste is full, with flavors of well roasted malts, toffee and chocolate. Very delightful beer, an excellent example of the style. Pairs well with brats, burgers or can stand on its own. amee16 (62) - Valparaiso, Indiana, USA - OCT 13, 2007

pours a beautiful almost black with a reddish tint and a thick tan head that dissipates quickly to a light lacing that remains. aroma is brown sugar and a little chocolate... one of the best smelling brews I’ve had. Mouthfeel is creamy and chewy. tastes roasty and malty with a nice bitterness. bjaynes80 (2) - , Indiana, USA - JUN 24, 2008 does not count
I really like this beer. Being that this is a local brew, I am somewhat partioal. Poors dark with a light foam medium brown head. A good roasted flavor with a hint of spice.

Pours a dark brown with a brown-ish light head. Aroma has hints of chocolate and roasted malts, no hops. Flavor is like the aroma but has a sourness to it, more suptle than the New Glarus Porter, but it is there. Medium-heavy, no way to drink a lot of these in one sitting. I really like this. flatmatt (1604) - Northville, Michigan, USA - AUG 2, 2010
On tap at the brewery. Pours a deep red brown with a light tan head. Aroma is a bit light, but features coffee and cocoa. Flavor is quite robust, with anise, coffee, dark fruit, and cocoa. Great job. nbutler11 (1267) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - JAN 19, 2011
Bottle shared by hellbilly -- thanks, Chef! Dark amber pour with a beige head. Smells and tastes of toasted malt, steak, bread, cola, and earth. Seems really underrated to me. slickmaster (11) - Indiana, USA - MAR 25, 2012
Poured bottle Union Jacks Indiana. Not a huge Upland fan but this one is different. Rich aroma dark explodes a bit in your mouth. The finish really makes this brew. Thank you.

had at the Beer of Summer tasting at oldsmar tap house. Pours dark brown with a medium brown head. Aroma is faint but cocoa, wood, roasted malts. Taste makes up for it. chocolate, wood, nutty taste. real good. Heavy mouthfeel with a decent alcohol warming ability. an underrated beer from a underrated brewery.
