This traditional American Pale Ale is a combination of the finest Midwestern malts and American Hops, creating a refreshingly crisp, citrusy, and slightly bitter taste. Named for the Greek sun god, Helios Pale Ale is a great choice for those who like a lot of personality and individuality in their beer. Helios was given its name to reflect Upland’s commitment to environmental sustainability, specifically the installation of ten solar water tube panels on the roof of the brewery, which have dramatically reduced the amount of natural gas used to heat water in the brewhouse.

On tap at brewpub. Pours a clear yellowy golden yellow with an offwhite head, healthy enough. The nose is lightly sweet with hops. Not a ton, floral. Light pale malt. Corn, not a ton of it, but that special corn flake sort of sweetness, unmistakable. The mouthfeel is a bit fuller than I’d expect from the style, with standard draught sort of carbonation. The flavor is in line with the nose, though the corn is perhaps a bit more pronounced. There’s a good deal of sweetness to this. The hops are a bit low in profile for my tastes. This is however really very easy to drink. I’m just sad that the old pale was pushed aside for this pale! That being said, I was very enthused about the new experimental amber, which perhaps fills the void left by the departure of the old pale.

Bottle at home. Pours a clear golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have pale toasted malts, mild citrus character, grass, mild to moderate bitterness, nothing to get excited about, very average APA.

Bottle from a bud. Thanks, bud. Out of the bottle watching Skyfall. The movie is better than the beer. Light citrus, light bitterness, malt sweetness that lingers. Drying. Medium body.

Sampler pours amber with a white head. Aroma of malts, pine and floral. Taste is grains, caramel and pine.

bottle. pretty average pale ale. Nothing really stands out, expect it’s better than a bud light

Cybercat (5875) - Georgia, USA - JUL 2, 2015
Pours slightly hazy orange-golden with a thin pale buff head. Malty aroma is not strong, and has a fruity hint. Flavor is more hoppy than malty, close to an IPA, slightly bitter with just a hint of orange. Mouthfeel has average fizz and slightly thin body, while finish is hoppy and woody. Nothing special, but good for a party or chilling on a hot day.

Descent but nothing special. Nice aroma and orangish look. Taste is lacking and it lingers for way to long.
