COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(Previously labeled Kiwi Lambic). There aren’t many kiwis growing in Indiana and they aren’t typically added to beer, but when we started making sour ales, our forward-thinking brewers wanted to do something different. They hand peel the fruit and add it whole to the base sour ale that had been fermenting for more than eight months in white oak barrels. The result is a fruited ale that is hazy and golden/straw in appearance upon pouring, with zesty amounts of carbonation. Fresh kiwi and tropical aromas combine with floral and wine-like notes, with rich kiwi flavors following in the taste, accompanied by refreshing tartness and a dry and tangy finish.

From notes. Enjoyed this at a share at Corbet’s house on October 10. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a hazy pale straw yellow with a thin cap of white head that vanishes very quickly. The aroma is sour as fuck. This will make you cough on a deep inhale. Jesus. There is a light fruitiness to it and it’s very acetic. There is a light oak and a hint of some citrus fruits, but that kiwi is ridiculous. The flavor is lightly fruity again, and incredibly sour and puckering. There citric acid is off the charts here. I feel like the enamel is jumping right off of my teeth. The mouth feel is lighter, slightly syrupy, and crisp with a decent carbonation and a huge bracing sour on the finish. This is decent, but way over the top.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2016 Orange gold pour, smaller head. Huge sour funk aroma, kiwi. Mouth puckering sour, possibly the sourest I’ve had. Kiwi, funk, tart, balsamic vinegar. Medium body. If too much is never enough, hunt this one down (provided you have a few friends to share it with!)

Bottle courtesy of linusb and jokestereo. Pours hazy orangish deep yellow with a small frothy offwhite head that doesn’tl leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is fruity with crackers, lemon juice, lime juice, kiwi fruits, hay, dry soil, apple cider vinegar and lemon zest. Taste is heavy sour and fruity. Mouthfeel is dry, tart, mouth-puckering and light bodied. Finish is heavy sour with citrus juice, apple cider vinegar, kiwi and minerals. One-note and too sour but somehow tasty nonetheless.

750, capped. Thanks, J! So cool. Seems like it was not that long ago that this one was a whale among whales. Honestly not sure how coveted it is now, since I am not following that kind of thing quite as breathlessly as I used to. Pours a cloudy medium amber with a loose off-white fizzy head that fades quickly. Big intense tart nose, not overly vinegary, but nearly that singular in its sharpness. Fruit sugar, fruit acidity, and intense inoculation character are almost overwhelming, and certainly tilted a bit toward the bitey. Hard to pick out the fruit character from the other acidic sharpness here. Long bitey finish.

Bottle courtesy of StFun, thanks Josh! Pours a vibrant golden color, thin off-white head that fades to wispy lace. Aromas of tart fruit...green apples, kiwi, grapefruit. Notes of oak and light grains follow, but this nose packs a punch! Almost stings the nostrils! Ha! Taste is on the high-end of the tart spectrum. Loads of acidic notes explode on my palate. Haven’t had a pucker this dominant in a while! Oak, hints of vanilla and spice follow along with kiwi notes...green apples..white grapes and light barnyard funk. A solid and fun beer for sure, but I couldn’t drink too much of this.
