FROM NOTES: August 2, ’12
A: Heavily roasted presence with citrusy freshness from the leafy hops.
A: Pours a non-transparent black with a solid tan colored head that dissipates slowly, leaving lacing clinging to the glass.
T: Light flavor of roasted malts followed by pine and citrusy hops. There is a mild burnt bitterness with notes of coffee and cocoa.
P: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky
O: GOD DAMN, I love American Black Ale! Delicious, well-balanced, beautiful, and fantastic smelling. Definitely drinkable.
Dark brown color with a full, dark tan head. Pine, grapefruit and toasted to roasted malt aromas. Fairly simple aromas, but straight forward and to the point. Roasted malt and grilled citrus flavors. A porter with a real hops bite. A bit ashy and roasted in the finish and linger. A bit too much in the acidity with the dark malts and hops, at least for me. 4/10

Good beer, but man on a mission of brutally dry and bitter? Christallmighty whoa The aroma is fresh. But while the flavor is true, it’s still so over the top bitter, that you can’t think of anything thing else. geeklimit (291) - USA - MAR 20, 2016
Pours black with a foam cola head. Strong hops spice aroma. Strong bitter hops spice flavor on a light-roasted back. Doesn’t taste nearly as dark as it looks. Very carbonated and slightly sticky. bookman10 (1112) - Osseo, Minnesota, USA - MAR 9, 2016
Pours a dark black with minimal head. Nice bouquet of citrus hops and dark roasted grain. Flavor had touches of coffee, chocolate, licorice, and citrus from the hops and almost a hint of what I thought was mint, but must have been the lavender. Nice black IPA. miyauchi38 (1096) - chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 21, 2016

Bottle. Pours black with little ruby highlights with nose tan head and lacing. Nose is big floral hops and little roast. Taste is nice and hoppy with some roast and chocolate. Lasting bitterness in the aftertaste. Definitely balanced toward the hops. Nice black IPA. JonnyMadison (87) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 26, 2015
Bottle. Poured jet black, very dark and opaque, with tan head. Aroma is earthy, like grass, Flavor is very strong, but not overwhelming, hops balanced very smoothly. I haven’t tried many black IPAs, but this one appeals to me a lot. Mouthfeel is anything but thin. Bitter finish, a little bit of an aftertaste, but all around very nice! paintedmaple (671) - People’s Republic of Bloomington, Indiana, USA - MAR 2, 2015
Tap at the brewpub...jet black pour this has a floral hop aroma followed by a grassy, roasted, cocoa flavor. Complex flavor and a nice mouth feel this finished with a clean, bitter bite. Very drinkable and very good. sturmthis (1149) - Bavaria, GERMANY - JUN 7, 2014
12oz bottle. Pours a black color with thick beige head. Coffee aroma. Tastes of coffee and ends bitter with hops. Interesting and solid beer.
