COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Komodo Dragonfly Black IPA is a well-balanced, dark, bitter, and totally unique beer experience. We brewed this IPA with a base of fresh Pilsner Malts and darkened the color with pure Black Malts, creating a clean malt character that allows the liberal hop additions to shine through. Komodo is dry hopped and aged with a pinch of lavender to add to the overall aromatic experience.

Strong cascade aroma. Long lasting tan head with a deep black color. The taste is slightly smoky and rich with hop bitterness. Tried a small glass at Roots Restaurant in Milwaukee.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2010 On draft at the brewery. Roasted and citrus nose below a dark brown head. Taste I balanced roast and citrus notes. Nice bitterness and smooth mouthfeel and creamy. Such a really nice beer. One of the best IBAs Ive had.

One of the best black IPAs Ive gotten to try. Amazing hop presence with a superb balance of roasted malt, a little floral aroma which is insanely impressive considering the hugely dark color of this pour. A really great, unique and delicious beer.

Really enjoyed this beer. Nice hop aroma, I didnt get any lavender. The dark malts are pretty mild, and the hops really come through and have a great bitterness. Im going to have to get more of this brew.

Great style with beer akin to 3Fs Alpha Klaus. The nose presents hops and a slightly burnt and bitter aroma. The body is midland not too thin not too thick with an initial burst of C hops and nice balance between the roasted malt and bitterness. A great looking beer with brussels lace providing a thick coat upon my glass. Great beer and great style/

Ok, they are right about the blackness, its pretty black. Smells hoppy like a pale ale. As youre drinking it, there is some maltiness, but with hops relentlessly battling for supremacy. The aftertaste is major hops with a bit of a smokey residue.

Good beer, but man on a mission of brutally dry and bitter? Christallmighty whoa The aroma is fresh. But while the flavor is true, its still so over the top bitter, that you cant think of anything thing else.

Bottle courtesy of BBB. Pours a deep dark brown with a creamy frothy tan head. A lot of great roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee characte with a great citrusy hop bite to it. Really nice and clean. black malts and a great layer. Maybe the best "black ipa" Ive had.

Ha. read mikes review after my own. Its true- this does remind me quite a bit of dance of the dead. Though this seems like a simpler, but cleaner version of it. Let me know how a side by side taste test goes, mike. Anyways, really like the black malt big hop combo. right up my alley.

Im not sure why this is recommended for the winter season. When I think of Komodo Dragons and Dragon Flys I think of hot, tropical, and summer. Oh, and the beer tastes great, no doubt about it.

Bottled355ml. -Trade with shrubber85 (thanks Roger!)
Deep black coloured, huge brown head, roasted malt and chocolate in the nose. The taste was great; heavy roasted malt, dark chocolate and pleasant hoppy with nutty notes. Strong bitter finish and long-lasting aftertaste.
