Strong cascade aroma. Long lasting tan head with a deep black color. The taste is slightly smoky and rich with hop bitterness. Tried a small glass at Roots Restaurant in Milwaukee. wnoble (1251) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - DEC 11, 2010
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2010 On draft at the brewery. Roasted and citrus nose below a dark brown head. Taste I balanced roast and citrus notes. Nice bitterness and smooth mouthfeel and creamy. Such a really nice beer. One of the best IBAs I’ve had. novels (424) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 22, 2013
One of the best black IPAs I’ve gotten to try. Amazing hop presence with a superb balance of roasted malt, a little floral aroma which is insanely impressive considering the hugely dark color of this pour. A really great, unique and delicious beer. temporrari (397) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAR 15, 2013
Really enjoyed this beer. Nice hop aroma, I didn’t get any lavender. The dark malts are pretty mild, and the hops really come through and have a great bitterness. I’m going to have to get more of this brew. EddieG (169) - Palos Heights, Illinois, USA - SEP 6, 2011
Great style with beer akin to 3F’s Alpha Klaus. The nose presents hops and a slightly burnt and bitter aroma. The body is midland not too thin not too thick with an initial burst of C hops and nice balance between the roasted malt and bitterness. A great looking beer with brussel’s lace providing a thick coat upon my glass. Great beer and great style/

Ok, they are right about the blackness, it’s pretty black. Smells hoppy like a pale ale. As you’re drinking it, there is some maltiness, but with hops relentlessly battling for supremacy. The aftertaste is major hops with a bit of a smokey residue. drpimento (3672) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 27, 2016
Good beer, but man on a mission of brutally dry and bitter? Christallmighty whoa The aroma is fresh. But while the flavor is true, it’s still so over the top bitter, that you can’t think of anything thing else. SrSilliGose (3331) - pouring bus, New Brunswick, CANADA - APR 19, 2010
Bottle courtesy of BBB. Pours a deep dark brown with a creamy frothy tan head. A lot of great roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee characte with a great citrusy hop bite to it. Really nice and clean. black malts and a great layer. Maybe the best "black ipa" I’ve had.

Ha. read mike’s review after my own. It’s true- this does remind me quite a bit of dance of the dead. Though this seems like a simpler, but cleaner version of it. Let me know how a side by side taste test goes, mike. Anyways, really like the black malt big hop combo. right up my alley.
I’m not sure why this is recommended for the winter season. When I think of Komodo Dragons and Dragon Fly’s I think of hot, tropical, and summer. Oh, and the beer tastes great, no doubt about it. ogivlado (7856) - Zagreb, CROATIA - MAR 30, 2011

Deep black coloured, huge brown head, roasted malt and chocolate in the nose. The taste was great; heavy roasted malt, dark chocolate and pleasant hoppy with nutty notes. Strong bitter finish and long-lasting aftertaste.
